Raul G. Mancillas 88 passed away peacefully on February 8, 2026, in Brownsville, Texas surrounded by his wife and children. He leaves behind a life marked by faith, service, and deep devotion to his family.
Raul was born on December 9, 1937, in San Benito, Texas to Pedro and Salome Mancillas. He would live there until his enlistment to the US Army in 1958, where he served as a Specialist 4 in France transporting Army supplies until his honorable discharge in 1961.
In 1963, Raul married the love of his life, Hilda Casas, after meeting each other at a mutual friend's birthday party. Once they began to date, Raul would write countless letters to Hilda while she attended college in Denton, Texas to ensure she would not forget about him. Raul and Hilda were married for 62 years. Raul and Hilda lived in San Benito, San Diego, Rio Grande, Mission, and California before settling in Brownsville.
For over 30 years, Raul served hundreds of individuals and families with dedication and compassion as a social worker, until his retirement from Valley Baptist Medical Center, in 2012.
Raul will be remembered for his devotion to his faith and family, his story telling at family gatherings and his willingness to help anyone in need.
Raul was predeceased in death by his parents, Pedro and Salome Mancillas, and three nephews, BJ Garcia, Carlo Mancillas, and Robert Moody and brothers-in-law Prax Guerra and Laco Silguero. He is survived by his wife Hilda, daughter Marilu and her husband Bernard, son Marco, three grandchildren, Vincent and his fiancé Nikole, Gabriel, and Robert, four great grandchildren Melony, Harmony, Easton, and Harley, five siblings, Dr. Juan and his wife Sylvia Mancillas, Connie Garcia, Guadalupe and her husband Romeo Armendariz, Margarita Mancillas, Gracie Ratiff, and many nieces and nephews.

The funeral mass will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 12th, 2026, at Our Lord of Devine Mercy Catholic Church.
The visitation will be held on Thursday, February 12th, 2026, at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with Military Honors beginning at 5:00 p.m., and a recitation of the Holy Rosary at 6:00 p.m. Services conclude at the end of the evening.
