Ravindra Kumar Goel

Ravindra Goel, or Ravi, was born in Muzaffarnagar, India in 1949. He was born at home. He was the youngest of four children and claimed to be a precocious child and changed his name three times. He attended the India Institute of Technology in Delhi. Ravi wanted to see the world and so he came to study at the University of Iowa where he learned upon arrival that bright sunshine does not mean the temperature is warm.
He met his wife, Mimi, at the International Folk Dance Club in 1973. After getting married in 1975, they moved to Oakland, California where Ravi worked for Kaiser Engineers. Later he joined GE in Cincinnati where he worked for 32 years.
Ravi eventually became the Global Engineering Manager at GE Aviation. He established new companies in India, Turkey, Poland, China, Mexico, and Russia. He considered his greatest work achievement The Analysis Center of Excellence in Bangalore, India. He was proud to develop this company which could employ so many fine engineers in his home country.
In his free time, Ravi enjoyed photography, extensive travel, trying all sorts of food and drinks, especially beer. In every new city he searched for a great place to eat. Over his 47 years of marriage, he loved traveling and finding new adventures with Mimi, including dancing through the disco era, attending Salsa nights at Fountain Square, and embarrassing his family with his enthusiastic Chicken Dance routine at the Oktoberfest every year.
Ravi was very proud of his daughter, Dr. Anita Goel, and later his son-in-law, Dr. Nick Luibrand. He doted on his grandchildren, Tyler and Amaya.
Shortly after Ravi's retirement, he developed two cancers which he survived for many years with his family by his side.
A celebration of his life will be on Saturday, April 30, at Gilligan Funeral Home, 8225 Montgomery Rd with visitation at 11:00am and a service at 12:00pm, followed by a light luncheon at Anita's home.
