Ray Joseph Bergeron, Sr. 78 years old of Marrero, Louisiana passed away on January 15, 2026, surrounded at home by his loved ones. While this fills us with deep sorrow, we are comforted that he is now in the presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Ray was born June 14, 1947, (flag day) in New Orleans, Louisiana. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend to so many. Ray was preceded in death by his parents Clevin “Black” J. Bergeron, Verna Pierce Bergeron and brother, Irvin P. Bergeron. He was the son-in-law of the late Floyd “Pookie” and Peggy Walker.

Ray is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Letty Marie Bergeron; four children Denise Timmerman (Pierre), Rayelynne Guerineau, Ray “Buddy” Bergeron, Jr. and Mark A. Bergeron (Chi); grandchildren Katlin Sheets (Jon), Corryn White (Tanner), Parker Timmerman, James Guerineau (Madison), Cody Guerineau, Victoria Guerineau, Luke Bergeron (Kaitlyn), Zachary Bergeron, Mark A. Bergeron, Jr., Grace Bergeron and Benjamin Bergeron; great-grandchildren Roman Sheets, Callum Sheets and Ayla Jane Bergeron and his beloved sisters Ruby Langford, Jean Melancon, Mary Ellen Roberts, Ella Ledet, and Debra Parfait.

Ray was a member of Union Local 60 and was employed at American Cyanamid Chemical Plant as a master welder and pipe fitter. The family opened New Orleans Food and Spirits 30 years ago and Ray was essential to its success. He took joy in greeting and joking with the customers and working with Ray Gray. He enjoyed going on cruises with Letty and their friends and watching football, especially the Saints.

Ray loved his camp in Dulac, Louisiana. He called it his happy place. He enjoyed shrimping, fishing and crabbing in the bayou, never missing an opening day of trawling. His greatest reward was sharing his catch with his family.

Ray will be deeply missed but his memory will forever live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him. The Bergeron Family would like to thank everyone for their love and support during this very difficult time. The calls, texts, flowers and most importantly prayers are greatly appreciated.

Family and friends are invited to attend the visitation at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church Westwego, Louisiana on Tuesday January 20, 2026, from 8:30 AM – 9:30 AM for family, 9:30 AM until 12 PM for friends followed by Mass at 12PM.
