Ray Keith Bertrand, 58, of San Antonio, Texas, passed away suddenly on Sunday July 16, 2023. Ray was born in Altus, Oklahoma on June 16, 1965 to Jean Bertrand and Carolyn Ann Bertrand. His dad's military career took the family to homes in Port O'Connor, Schertz, and San Antonio. Ray was raised by his loving mother and grew up with his three sisters. He attended MacArthur High School and graduated in 1983. While in high school he excelled at baseball and football, leading the league in sacks for several years. After graduation he held several jobs including food service, carpentry, roofing, and bartending. After a very brief stint in Albuquerque, NM, Ray and his wife, Joann Valdez, decided to raise their children here in San Antonio. They had 4 amazing kids: Kenneth, Kyle, Kristopher and Kayla. In Ray's spare time he enjoyed watching movies and sports. But mostly, he loved to go fishing. He was happiest when he was waiting for that bite! Ray was always welcoming, wore a smile on his face, and most importantly goofing off, having the best jokes. He loved to make others laugh. His number one passion was as a provider. He would do anything to help support his family and friends. He was willing to take on any task that was asked of him with pride. He further extended his dexterity and adroitness to America! Performed as a truck driver he was part of a network of true American heroes. Ray worked most recently over the span of 5 years as a truck driver for Arrowhead Leasing, LLC up north. He enjoyed the open road, wildlife, and sharing the beautiful scenery through photographs. Ray is survived by his wife Joann Bertrand, his children Kenneth Bertrand, Kyle Bertrand, Kristopher Bertrand, and Kayla Bertrand, his siblings Brigette Bertrand (Barry Stowers), Gina Martin and Diane Cullen (Daniel Cullen), his nieces Taylor Martin, Heather Cullen, and Audrey Cullen as well as his many cousins and friends. Ray was preceded in death by his parents Carolyn Ann Bertrand and Jean Bertrand.
