Union Mills, NC
Our faithful, loving daddy, Ray Dean Duncan born February 25, 1930 passed away peacefully at his home Saturday, April 19, 2025. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 70 years, Ruby Carolyn Hill Duncan, a son, Alton Keith Duncan, a grandson, Marcus Leon Bridges and fifteen brothers and sisters. Left to cherish his memory are his four children, Sandra Arrowood (Dennis), Faye Bridges (Pete), Martha Searcy (Gary), Alan Duncan (Barbara), and daughter-in-law, Jennie Cox (Gene). He is also survived by twelve grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren, and many, many nephews and nieces. Ray was a charter member of Welcome Home Baptist Church where he attended for some sixty years and served as a member of the Deacon Board. He is currently a member of Piney Knob Baptist Church. Singing was a big part of his life; he sang with the Psalmist Quartet for many years and was dedicated to spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ. He loved Jesus and wanted others to come to know Him. In 1960 he started Duncan Plumbing-Heat and Air which became Duncan and Sons when his two sons joined the business. Today his legacy of hard work has been passed down through his son and grandsons. Golfing, cousin camping, church, singing and spending time with his entire family was what made him truly happy. A funeral service will be held 12 PM, Wednesday, April 23, 2025 at Piney Knob Baptist Church, 1534 Piney Knob Road, Rutherfordton, NC 28139 with Rev. Casey Stockton, Rev. Kevin Hill, Rev. Michael Brown, Rev. Tim Biddix and Rev. Pete Bridges officiating. The family will receive friends from 11 A.M. until 12 P.M., Wednesday, April 23, 2025 at Piney Knob Baptist Church. Ray will be laid to rest in the cemetery of Welcome Home Baptist Church, 3531 Painters Gap Road, Union Mills, NC 28167 following the funeral service. The family will be gathering at the home of Ray Duncan, 1706 Painters Gap Road, Union Mills, NC 28167. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Shingle Hollow Volunteer Fire Department 2621 Cove Road, Rutherfordton, NC 28139. Online condolences may be made at www.crowemortuary.com.
