Ray Hammons was born January 23, 1939 in Sinking Creek community in Knox, Kentucky. He was the son of the late James Ernest Hammons and Eva Williamson Hammons. He was united in marriage to Helen Burkhart Hammons who survives of London, of 64 years. He is also survived by his three children, Timothy Ray Hammons (Dr. Kristine) of
Berea, Kentucky, daughters, Tamara Hammons McFadden (Jimmy) and Twyla Susan Hammons both of
London, Kentucky; one grandson, Jared Chesnut (Vanessa) of
Maryville, Tennessee, two step-grandsons, J.B. McFadden (Brandi) and Joseph McFadden; great-granddaughters, Madeleine Chesnut, Amelia Chesnut, Kailiana McFadden and Araylia McFadden; plus a host of other nieces, nephews, other family and friends to mourn his passing.
Ray was raised up on a farm his entire life. At an early age Ray, along with his brothers, would tend to and show award winning beef and dairy cattle in 4-H and FFA county and state fairs. In 1968, Ray his wife and family built Triple T Dairy in Sublimity area, which they operated for 34 years. Rays love of operating the farm equipment, the smell of the diesel brought many of a smile. Also the nurturing of the many crops, corn for silage, soybeans, hay and tobacco, all made for a very busy hardworking husband and dad.
Ray was a director for Federal Land Bank. Ray was chairman of deacons at Corinth Baptist and Sunday school teacher at Corinth Baptist and Victory Baptist.
Retirement years Ray enjoyed being the Pit Crew for "Unbridled Pulling Team", his son's pulling tractor.
Ray always went above and beyond helping out his neighbors, family and friends.
In addition to his parents he is also preceded in death by his seven siblings, Mary Hammons Greer, Virgil Hammons, Evelyn Hammons Stanberry, Glenn Hammons, Chester Hammons, Harold Hammons, and Jerry Hammons.
Ray Hammons departed this life at his home surrounded by his loving family, Tuesday, September 5, 2023 being 84 years, 7 months, and 13 days of age.
The funeral service for Ray Hammons will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Friday in the Bowling Funeral Home Chapel with Ronnie Owens and Greg Deaton officiating. Burial will follow in Tipton Cemetery in London.
The family of Ray Hammons will receive friends at Bowling Funeral Home Thursday beginning at 6:00 p.m.
Pallbearers: Jared Chesnut, Gerald Hammons, Tyler Inman, David Hammons, Randy Alexander, and Steve Alexander.
Honorary Pallbearers: Russell Siler, Chuck Inman, James Mel Greer, J.B. McFadden, Ben Hammons, Ernest Hammons, Bruce Hammons, Donnie Cheek, Mike Johnson, Brian Reed, and Scottie Burkhart.
