Ramon "Ray" Hart, age 88, of Cheboygan, passed away on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, at his home. The son of Millard and Florence (Hittle) Hart, he was born in Hayes Township, near Gaylord, on March 8, 1937. He married Marlene Tomke and they were blessed with six children, Ramon, Roy, Randy, Lillian, Rosemary, and Ron. After Marlene's death, he later married Jenny Shouder and along with her came bonus children, Tracy and Kelly Shouder.
Ray is survived by his wife, Jenny, of Cheboygan; children, Roy (Kathy), Randy (Sherie), Lillian (Mike) Baker, Rosemary (Perry) Neuman, and Ron (Shelly) Hart; daughter-in-law, Doreen; and stepdaughters, Tracy (Marty) Elliott and Kelly Thomas; as well as his grandchildren, Doug (Lori), Jamie (Kris), Nathan (Ruthie), Casey, Steve (Abby), Andrew (Jamie), Alicia, Angie, Alexis (Jim), Jennifer (Phil), Amanda, Travis, Tonya, Gus, Toni (Josh), Erika (Dylan), Jordan (Emily), Mason, Riley, Molly, and Jacob; and many great grandchildren.
Ray also leaves his brothers, Larry Hart and Fred (Kathy) Hart, both of Cheboygan; sister, Vera Hart, of Traverse City; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marlene; son, Ramon; brothers, Philip "Buck," Dave, Floyd, and Lonnie; sisters, Leila "Rosie" Charboneau, Virginia Waldie, Floy Neumann, and Frances Vieau; and his parents.
Ray worked as a meat cutter for many years eventually retiring from Carter's IGA in Cheboygan. He then became a school bus driver, a job he genuinely loved. A man of simple pleasures, Ray loved the outdoors, tending to his garden, and hunting bear with his hounds, as well as deer, rabbit, and racoon hunting. He loved dancing; at weddings and parties, Ray was always the first and last one on the dance floor. But above all, he loved spending time with his family.
Ray will be remembered at a mass to be held at St. Mary – St. Charles Catholic Church in Cheboygan at 12 noon on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, where his family will receive friends beginning at 10 AM. Interment will follow at St. Francis of Assisi Cemetery. Those planning an expression of sympathy please consider a contribution in memory of Ray to the Cheboygan County Humane Society.
