Ray Miller

Raymond (Ray) Miller, 86 years old, affectionately known as Scotty, passed away peacefully on the morning of September 6, 2025. Scotty was born in Aberdeen, Scotland on June 11, 1939. In 1967 he moved to Canada then emigrated to the United States in 1969. He lived most of his life in the Detroit metro area of Michigan before retiring and moving to Etowah, North Carolina.

Scotty is survived by Judy Miller, his loving wife of 37 years, sister Sadie Miller and stepbrother John Miller, both of Aberdeen, Scotland. He was a dedicated father to David (Judi) Miller of San Antonio, TX and Jackie (Rich) Bahr of Rochester, MI, and Stepfather to Mary Kirchner of Cary, NC, Lauren (Bill) Klein of Brighton, MI, Larry (Kelly) Kirchner of Smyrna, GA, Karen (Russ) Thorne of Euclid, OH, Dawn Veltman of Grand Haven, MI and a loving grandpa to his 13 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by sister Lena Masson of Fort Pierce, FL and brothers Thomas Miller and Alexander "Sandy" Miller, both of Aberdeen, Scotland, and William Miller of Vancouver, British Columbia.

Scotty was a long-time member and Commander of the Royal Canadian Legion Post 84 in Royal Oak Michigan and Master Mason in the Lodge Bon Accord Number 669 of the Grand Lodge of Scotland. He was a weekly regular at Dugan's and Hannah Flanagan's pubs where he, with his signature Scottish brogue, would share stories about his life and keep the crowds laughing with his amazing sense of humor. He also loved singing Danny Boy whenever the opportunity arose and playing pool with his friends at the River Winds Clubhouse.

Scotty will be greatly missed by their dog Dexter, family, friends and all that had the good fortune to make his acquaintance.

A celebration of life will take place on September 13, 2025 at 1:00 pm at Hannah Flanagan's Pub & Eatery, 300 North Main Street, Hendersonville, NC 28792
