Ray Mills Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by St. John's Family Funeral Home & Crematory on Feb. 18, 2026.
Ray Mills, 90, of St. Augustine, Florida, passed away peacefully at his home on February 14, 2026.

Born in Gainesville, Florida, he was the son of the late George Washington Mills and Martha Jane Mills. Ray spent most of his life in Gainesville before moving to St. Augustine in 2019. He worked for many years as a dedicated carpenter in the construction industry until his retirement.

Ray had a deep love for the outdoors and enjoyed fishing, hunting, and camping. He was especially known for his talent at the grill. An accomplished cook, he took great pride in preparing meals for family and friends, and many would eagerly seek him out to cook for their special events. His food brought people together, and his generosity and warmth made every gathering memorable.

While living in Gainesville, he attended the Church of God and valued his faith and church community.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Margretta B. Mills of St. Augustine; his children, Robert Carroll (Charlene) of St. Augustine, Beth Ann Peacock (Fred) of Jacksonville, Kathy Mills of St. Augustine, and Greta Lipnick (Jere) of St. Augustine; 8 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren; along with extended family and friends who will cherish his memory.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 11 siblings.

A celebration of Ray's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at St. Johns Family Funeral Home, with Pastor David Beecher officiating.

He will be remembered for his strong work ethic, his love of family, his gift for cooking, and the many lives he touched throughout his 90 years.
