Ray Keith Sloan, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed peacefully on January 21, 2025, at the age of 94. He is survived by his devoted wife of 73 years and childhood sweetheart, Betty Joy; his three daughters, Debra (married to Deryl Sewell), Cathy (married to Jim Patterson), and Tracy (married to Kris Miller); 11 cherished grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren. Ray's family was the light of his life, and he was a proud and doting Daddy and Papa, always eager to spend time with his three girls, grandkids and great-grandkids, creating lasting memories that will be treasured for generations.

Born on August 27, 1930, in Hamilton, Texas, Ray grew up alongside his brother, Larry, forming an unbreakable bond. Ray's close relationship with Larry remained a cornerstone of his life, and the two were each other's steadfast companions through thick and thin.

Ray's education and career path were marked by achievement and determination. He was the first in his family to graduate from Texas A&M University in 1953, where he proudly served in the Corps of Cadets. A lifelong Aggie, Ray passed on his love for Texas A&M to his children and grandchildren, making it a cherished family tradition. Ray's career as the Director of Finance at Lockheed Martin in Grand Prairie spanned 43 years, where he negotiated multimillion-dollar defense contracts and made lasting contributions to the company.

Ray's brilliance extended beyond his career. He was a self-taught electrician, architect, and even lawyer, embodying a spirit of perseverance and problem-solving that touched every aspect of his life. His quick wit and intellect made him unbeatable at board games, particularly checkers, and his playful spirit and endless jokes brought laughter to everyone around him.

Above all, Ray's greatest joy was his family. As "Papa," he was known for his unwavering affection and support, and he loved nothing more than spending time with his grandchildren. He often picked them up from school with his old-school radio blasting Johnny Cash and Fats Domino, followed by a trip to 7-11 for Slurpees or "Mac Dacs" for apple pies-moments that became treasured traditions. His infectious humor, silly nicknames for everyone, and his title as the "Sweetest Sweetie in all of Sweetie Land" will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

A visitation will be held at Lucas Funeral Home in Grapevine, Texas, on Monday, January 27, from noon to 2pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Northeast Tarrant County A&M Club Scholarship.

Ray's legacy of love, humor, and devotion to family will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He made life richer for those around him, and his memory will continue to shine bright in the hearts of his family.
