Ray worked with our Dad Ken Camp in the Garvey School District and they shared the same birthday July 20th. I called and talked to him last year on his birthday and we had a good chat. Today my sister Colleen (Camp) Anasis tried to call and the phone was disconnected indicating he possibly had passed away.
Ray would even call our Mother after Dad died on his birthday to see how she was doing. Ray and Dad were two of a kind and two of the great administrators at the Garvey School District for about 30 years each. I will let Bruce Davis another retired principal and Richard Kelly a teacher whom I keep in touch with on Facebook of his passing.
I remember them taking about 200 intercity kids camping in pup tents for summer outdoor school for a week each year and one of the years it rained. Some kids had never slept away from home and only arrived with the clothes they were wearing, no sleeping bag or blanket but Ray and Dad were prepared and provided. They loved their students and their school staff.
Now he and Dad can work together in heaven! Both were handymen with many talents.
Ray was a special guy who I´m sure is deeply missed by his family and friends. Belated but heartfelt condolences to his entire family! He made the world a better place and was a good and faithful servant to God!
May God bless you all as you represent his legacy!

Ray Sparks was a wonderful man . He was my principal at Rice Elementary School. He always showed compassion for the students and faculty. Ray was the example I wanted to follow when I became a prinicipal. He will always be remembered.

Memories of Ray are precious to me. He was incredible principal when I worked under his direction at Monterey Vista Elementary school. He was kind , thoughtful, protective and always stood his ground He was easy to talk to I always considered him to be my friend and advocate.
On a funny note I recall a time when he marched into my classroom to take care of a possum that had wandered in. He reached down and picked it up by the tail while we all cringed and squealed. He calmly and bravely put it into a box for animal control to take it away
We all giggled about the finger he had ( didn´t have) that commanded so much control over the biggest trouble making students.
What a wonderful man Ray was! I loved him dearly. My condolences to the entire family.
