Ray R. Wherley, age 71 of Knoxville passed away on Thursday, February 13, 2025 at UPMC Wellsboro. Born June 10, 1953 in Randolph, TX, he was the son of the late Ray J. and Mary E. (Davis) Wherley. Ray graduated in 1971 from New Oxford High School, proudly served in the US Air Force from 1972 – 1974 and then attended the York Academy of Arts. He moved to Knoxville over 20 years ago, where he loved his community here and was happy to help design and paint the new Santa that looks over Knoxville. Ray worked for PRVCA as a graphic artist, retiring just this past August. He was a member of the Knoxville Deerfield Fire Company and the Knoxville VFW, where he enjoyed pool leagues and playing trivia. Ray loved nature; hunting, gardening and bird watching and loved his dogs. Despite being states away, he was active in his children and grandchildren's lives. Ray is survived by his children, Jennifer (Jonathan) Morris of Norman, OK and William (Alix) Wherley of Portland, OR; grandchildren, Logan and Adam Morris and Maddox and Quintin Wherley; siblings, Rodney Wherley, Lorraine Eck and Roger Wherley and many nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Ray's Life will be held at a later date. Arrangements are in care of Kenyon Funeral Home, Elkland.

My sincere condolences to Ray and his family. I(Ed Tolan) worked security at the RV show for many years and still do. I met Ray some 30 or so years ago at the show. I knew Ray worked for the assn. and drove tow motors during and after the show. I was always amazed at how they maneuvered those units into the farm show bldg. and at the Giant Center. Ray endured many of my jokes during those years as did I of his jokes. We were always trying to one up each other but it was tough. Ray was quick to counter me if I thought I got the last joke in. You know in life you seldom meet people that leave a lasting impression, but Ray did. A nicer guy was tough to come by and he always had a smile on his face. Even in poor health he maintained his great sense of humor. It was tough because I knew he was hurting. RIP my good friend and you continue your journey to Heaven. Ed Tolan
