Raymond Rosario "Ray" Abitia

Raymond "Ray" Rosario Abitia (age 61) passed on to Heaven on July 15, 2025 in Bellingham, WA. Raymond was born on February 10, 1964 in Bellingham, WA to James and Virginia (Zapien) Abitia. Ray was an unconditionally loving father of four kids Kerry, Jimmy, Katherine, and Joshua Abitia. He was a very strong family man at all costs no matter what, he loved his kids and family. For Ray, it was always family first especially when it came to his kids and dogs. He was a very hard worker and took pride in his work and loved his career as a Journeyman Painter. His career was one of his many passions he loved. Always working hard but playing even harder. He was a loving friend and was always trying to help someone even if it left him with out. Ray found joy in helping those in need, he was a very generous person and always knew what to say or do to make you laugh and smile. Ray held nothing back when it came to his family and friends. Believe it or not, he may have loved his dogs sometimes more than his family. He never held a grudge he was a forgiving man in all situations. He was a strong man of Faith when it came to God. Ray loved to tell stories and knew how to tell the best stories whether real or not he had you tuned in. He always made the best jokes not always appropriate but he had no filter regardless of who or where he was. Ray will always be loved for his unique personality. He was a one-of-a-kind man and nothing can fill that special place in our hearts and memories that he left us to remember him with. Ray will always be with us and may he rest in peace with our Father in heaven. He is survived by his mother, Virginia Abitia; children, Kerry Abitia, Jimmy Abitia, Katherine Abitia and Joshua (Lindsay) Abitia; grandchildren, Alex, Ernesto, Tianna, Jasper, Joseph, Isabela, Elijah, Sophia, Andreas and Olivia; siblings, Jim Abitia, Rosie Abitia, Elizabeth (Deb) Altona, Josephine (Don) White, Fernando (Mary) Abitia, and Fred (Irene) Lagerway. Raymond is preceded in death by his father James Abitia Sr, Brothers, Santiago and Alphonso Abitia; Sister, Irene Lagerway and granddaughter, Surena Castillo. A Catholic Mass will be held on Thursday, August 28, 2025 from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM - St. Joseph Catholic Church followed by a reception for family and friends from 11:30 AM until 12:30 PM at St. Joseph Catholic Church Fellowship Hall. Graveside internment will be held at 1:00 PM at Greenwood Cemetery in Lynden, WA.
