Raymond L. Anderson
Services for Raymond L. Anderson, age 91, of Sheldon who passed away on Saturday, December 6, 2025, at Sibley Specialty Care in Sibley, Iowa. His services will be held at a later date.
Arrangements are under the care of the Vander Ploeg Funeral Home in Sheldon.
Raymond LaVern Anderson, the son of Clarence Edward and Velma LeBerta (Batcheler) Anderson was born on May 31, 1934, in Spencer, Iowa. He graduated from Spencer High School and continued his education at Wayne State College receiving his bachelor's degree and receiving his master’s degrees from the University of South Dakota. Ray was a member of the national guard from 1957 – 1963 and was called to active duty twice during this time. Ray was united in marriage to Logene Wightman on June 30, 1957, in Mapleton, Iowa. Ray spent thirty-four years at Sheldon Community School District as a teacher, principal and coach. He retired in 1994.
After retirement Ray and Lo spent winters in Arizona. He was involved in many park activities and made many friends. Ray had many interests. He spent many hours playing games with family and friends. He enjoyed sports and played golf and tennis for many years. Ray followed the Sheldon Orabs athletic activities and was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan. He looked forward to the annual Anderson family fishing trip. This tradition was started by his parents and continues today.
Ray passed away on December 6, 2025, at Sibley Specialty Care reaching the age of 91 years.
Ray was a member of Faith Community Church in Sheldon. He was also a member of the Iowa High School Athletic Association, serving as a district director. While at Wayne State he was all-conference and MVP for Wayne State College football in 1956.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Logene Anderson, children and their spouses, Terri and Dan Tjaden and Shane and Michelle Anderson; grandchildren, Adam (Laura) Tjaden, Dani Tjaden, Taylor Anderson, and Emily (Caleb) Wolters; two great granddaughters, Kellyn and Kennedy Reck; one brother, Harold Anderson; also, other relatives and friends.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents and sister-in-law Barb Anderson.
