Raymond Bitar Obituary

Raymond W. Bitar Sr., Esq., 85, of Arnold, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, July 26, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Born on March 14, 1940, in New Kensington to the late Azar G. and Sophie Monsouir Albert Bitar, Raymond was a lifelong resident of the New Kensington area and a member of St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church. From a young age, he exemplified dedication and work ethic starting at seven, he delivered newspapers and maintained three routes for 10 years, along with other side jobs. A 1958 graduate of New Kensington High School, Raymond went on to earn a B.S. in Education from Slippery Rock University in 1963. In addition to meeting his wife, Mary Lou, at Slippery Rock, he served as captain of the soccer team, earned All-American honors, and was inducted into the Slippery Rock Hall of Fame on Oct. 12, 2012. Raymond was everything to so many people beyond his immediate family. There is no doubt that his legacy will continue with his family and friends, who will cherish the memories they have of him. Raymond began his career in education, teaching algebra and geometry at Valley High School in New Kensington from 1964 to 1970, where he also served as head wrestling coach. He earned a master's degree in education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 1968. In 1970, he enrolled in night classes at Duquesne University School of Law while continuing to teach geometry at Peabody High School during the day. He earned his Juris Doctorate in 1974 and established a law office in New Kensington, where he practiced for more than 50 years with great dedication to his clients and community. Raymond was an active member of the Lower Burrell Rotary Club, serving as its president, and also served as president of Churchill Valley Country Club. He had a passion for golf and treasured quality time spent with family and friends. He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Dr. Mary Louise Suveges Bitar, and their two sons: Dr. Raymond (Sherri) Bitar Jr. of Lower Burrell and Scott (Erika) Bitar, Esq. of Fox Chapel. He was a proud grandfather to Alexa, Logan, Scott II, Baylin, Travis, Baustin, Tucker, and twins London and Barron Bitar. Raymond is also survived by his sister, Shirley Calhoun of Carmel, IN; and his brother, Michael (Nancy) Bitar of Avon, IN, and Naples, FL; as well as his best friend, Duke George of Murrysville. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Sheila Trenski; and his brother, Phillip Bitar. Private funeral services will be held at St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church and are entrusted to the RUSIEWICZ Family of Funeral Directors, Arnold and Lower Burrell. www.RusiewiczFH.com

Aside from Ray's sister, Shirley, and his cousin, Buzz Bitar, I have know Ray longer than anyone. My father in law, Jim Kanaan, was Azar's (Ray's father) best friend. They had emigrated from the same Syrian Village, Bazbina. Ray was the "glue" to his family, and a very important member of our St George Church our town of New Kensington.

Ray made a difference but most importantly he was the difference in everything and anyone who knew him. Truly a self made man against the odds. Ray was a believer in life and lived it with a passion and unselfishness like no one else. You always knew where you stood with Ray. He didn´t tell you what you wanted to hear , he always told you what you needed to hear.
He was as tough as he needed to be, and as kind as you needed him to be to help you.
Our lives are forever better because of Ray!
God Bless Ray for a life well lived!
All my love and condolences to the Bitar family. If New Ken had a hall of fame Ray would be be inducted with honors. Ray and Mary Lou´s family are a reflection of all that´s good about them. They both had many successes but none compares to their family.
All my love and respect,
Zach Kanaan and family
