Munden Funeral Home & Crematory - Morehead CityRaymond Gene Carter, 102, of Morehead City, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 19, 2025, at the Crystal Coast Hospice House.
A memorial service, with military honors, will be held at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, July 24th at Munden Funeral Home. The family will receive friends beginning at 6 p.m. Ray will be laid to rest next to his late wife, Marie, at Fort Indiantown Gap National Cemetery in Annville, Pennsylvania. For those unable to attend, the memorial service can be viewed through his obituary page on Munden Funeral Home’s website. The service will remain on the Funeral Home website for 90 days.
Ray was born on December 31, 1922, to the late Raymond and Mary Carter. He was born and raised in Kansas.
Ray served our country as a member of the US Coast Guard for World War II and in the US Army for the Korean War. After his time in the service, he was married and became a father. He worked as a watchmaker, then aerospace instrument technician, and retired from the US Postal Service.
Ray married Marie Luther on June 6, 1969, they resided in Phoenix, Arizona before moving to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
Ray was a prolific poet and an avid ballroom dancer until the age of 93. In his younger years, he enjoyed fast pitch softball and golfing. At age 99, Ray moved to the Crystal Coast where he enjoyed going to the beach, listening to music, and spending time with his extended family.
Ray leaves behind his loving family including his brother, Arlys; grandchildren, Cindy, John, Vince, Terry, Stan, and David; seven great-grandchildren; and eleven great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Ray was preceded in death by his wife, Marie Carter; siblings, Dorothy, "CD" Carol Dean, and "DL" David Leroy; and children; Jeff, Chris, Mike, Cheryl, Nancy and Bob.
