Raymond O'Dell Chappell

Raymond O'Dell Chappell, born on May 23, 1936, in Phil Campbell, Alabama, peacefully passed away on Friday, November 7, 2025, at the age of 89, surrounded by the love of his family. A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Raymond was a beacon of strength and kindness whose legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

Raymond proudly served our country as a member of the United States Air Force, where he cultivated the values of discipline, dedication, and service that would guide him throughout his life. After his twenty-year military service, he embraced the joys of civilian life with enthusiasm and a profound love for the great outdoors. He enjoyed bowling, camping, hiking, spending time at the beach, and gardening. He remained active well into his later years, finding tranquility in yoga and delight in golfing and tennis.

Raymond is survived by his beloved wife, Clara Chappell, and daughters, Sherri Walmer (Tim), Teresa Jones (Joel), Sonja Smith (Kyle), and Michelle Smith (Jack). Raymond adored his grandsons, John Mitchell (Joy), Austin Smith (Abby), Jacob Smith (Adrianna), his granddaughters, Melissa Tidwell (Lee), Jennifer Mitchell (Jo), Lacy Johnson (Ethan), and Abigail McCravy (Lance). He was blessed with 13 great grandchildren and 1 great-great granddaughter.
