Raymond "Ray" Thomas Cruz, 63, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 17th, 2024, in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his loving family.
Ray was born on Saturday, September 18th, 1961, to Jose and Mary Cruz in Portsmouth, Virginia. After graduating high school, he pursued a degree in Information Technology from the City of Chesapeake's IT Department. Ray was a compassionate man, always eager to help anyone in need. He dedicated his time to serving in various capacities at his church, with a special passion for the men's ministry. Those who knew Ray would describe him as loving, caring, and generous-a devoted husband and father. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, crabbing and being with family and friends.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 34 years, Diana Cruz; two sons, Joshua Cruz and wife Sarah, Jonah Cruz and wife Molly; and grandson, Oliver James Ray Booth. He is also survived by two brothers, Joseph Cruz and Vincent Cruz and wife Karen; four sisters: Peggy Jeffers and husband David, Barbara Thompson and husband Tommy, Vivian Edelman and husband Barry, and Teresa Gaines; as well as brothers-in-law Bobby Stover and wife Robin and Danny Stover and wife Patricia. Ray leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends. He is preceded in death by both parents and a beloved sister, Cathy.
We hope to live up to Ray's standards of love and kindness. He will forever be remembered and never forgotten.
A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, December 30th, 2024, at Alive Church, 1935 Joliff Rd, Chesapeake, VA 23321.
