Raymond Joseph Farnand of Irondequoit, NY passed away peacefully at home on February 19, 2024 at the age of 104. Raymond was born on October 11, 1919 in Buckingham, Quebec to Anthony and Mary Ellen Farnand. He and his nine siblings grew up on the family homestead and attended a one-room schoolhouse that was "uphill both ways."
Raymond married the love of his life, Teresa McCoy (1925-2016), on July 2, 1947. They were married for 69 years. Raymond and Teresa became U.S. citizens in 1954 and raised their nine children in Rochester, NY.
Raymond was a toolmaker and retired from Bausch & Lomb in 1985. He was a hard worker and always volunteered to work extra shifts to provide for his family. Raymond was deeply rooted in his Catholic faith and active in his parish community, St. Charles Borromeo, for many years. After his retirement, he volunteered with Meals on Wheels, Compeer of Rochester, and enjoyed riding his bicycle until he was almost ninety years old. Raymond was known for his singing and storytelling, which he did with a twinkle in his eye.
Raymond is survived by eight children: Bernard (Edwina) Farnand, Larry (Sally) Farnand, Tom (Sylvia) Farnand, Pat Farnand, Darcy (Maureen) Farnand, Phil (Kathy) Farnand, Steve (Susan) Farnand, and Maryellen (Mark) Putzke. He was predeceased by an infant son, Michael Farnand. Raymond was the beloved grandpa to dozens of grandchildren and great-grandchildren with whom he shared his faith, wisdom, tall tales, and Irish humor.
A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Ann's Chapel on Saturday, February 24th at 11:30am.
