Raymond Lee Holzbog, 85, of Taswell, Indiana, entered Heaven's Gates on July 5, 2025 at University of Louisville Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky. Lee was born on January 7, 1940 in Birdseye, Indiana to the late Raymond and Thelma (Newton) Holzbog.
Lee was a retired member of Local #181 Operators Union, working for 54 years in various roles in construction and reclamation, he was never more satisfied than when behind the controls of his grader, sharing his knowledge and expertise with future generations of operators.
Devoted to his community and providing better opportunities to the youth of Crawford County, Lee served as Crawford County School Board President for many years. An avid supporter of the Crawford County Youth Expo, Lee continued to encourage the children of Crawford County, in a variety of ways.
A passionate supporter of Crawford County Athletics, Lee truly bled orange, seldom absent from a sporting event. He was the unofficial stats keeper for boys and girls basketball for nearly 50 years. Serving God throughout his life, Lee was a deacon at Highfill Chapel General Baptist Church for 37 years. He honored the memory of those laid to rest at Highfill Chapel Cemetery, by serving as a member of the trustee board for many years. At the time of his passing, Lee was an active member of the Marengo Independent Methodist Church.
Lee loved farming, horseback riding, camping, reading, all things John Wayne, Bobby Knight, playing euchre, spending time with those he loved best, and telling stories about his grandkids.
Lee was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Thelma Holzbog; his siblings: Kathleen Ingle (Clayton), Hershal Holzbog, Mabel Linthicum (Eugene), Macel Holzbog, Marie Riley (Carl), Fredia "Peachie" Wilkes (Basil), Wanda Gehlhasen (Ron), Infant siblings: Velda, Donald, and Lois; brother-in-law, Jim Taylor; sister-in-law, Janice Holzbog and son-in-law, Marshal Stephenson; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Chester and Myrtle (Payton) Suddarth; brother-in-laws, Don Trump and Harold Suddarth; and a sister-in-law, Mary Ann Suddarth.
Lee is survived by his wife of 62 years, Naomi (Suddarth) Holzbog; his daughters, Connie (Kim) Holzbog, Monica Stephenson, and Kimberly Holzbog; grandchildren: Payton Stephenson, Mason Stephenson; honorary children: Michelle (Zehr) Dyer and Daven (Borden) Bayer; honorary grandchildren: Noah Adams (Sara), Abigail Adams, Isaac Adams, Chase Dyer, and Austin Dyer; honorary great-grandchild, Rivian Adams; siblings: Loretta Lytle, Lanessee Morgan (Hubert), Sammie Holzbog (Marolyn), Vivian Taylor, Roy Holzbog (Tracey) and Cornelia Holzbog; brother-in-law, Howard Suddarth; and sister-in-laws, Mary Rose (Suddarth) Trump and Brenda (Harris) Suddarth.
Funeral services will be on Wednesday, July 9, 2025 at 12:00 p.m. at the Marengo Independent Methodist Church, 1449 N. Hardy Road, Marengo, Indiana 47140. Interment will follow in the Highfill Chapel Cemetery.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, July 8, 2025 from 3-8 p.m. and on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, after 10:00 a.m. until time of the service at 12:00 p.m., all at the church.
Bro. Tim Jellison will officiate the service.
