Raymond Allen Hunter, affectionately known as “PawPaw,” passed away peacefully in Mabelvale, Arkansas, on September 16, 2025, just days shy of his 71st birthday. Born on September 21, 1954, in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, Raymond’s life was defined by his unwavering faith, infectious humor, and deep devotion to his family, friends, and community.

The beloved son of John L. Hunter and Ewilda Chambers, both now at rest, Raymond grew up close with his siblings, sharing adventures, laughter, and a spirit of camaraderie throughout his life. He treasured his relationships with his brothers Robert and John Hunter, and loved fondly his late sister, Gloria Connell. As a father to his son, Josh Hunter, and as a doting grandpa to Hayden, Jaxon, Riley, and Aubrey, Raymond was a constant source of support and warmth, embodying the role of Pawpaw in every sense.

Raymond’s defining traits—his hilarious wit, innate charm, adventurous nature, and genuine humility—endeared him to everyone he met. He was the best friend a person could have, always ready with a smile or a story, and generous with his time and compassion. Whether he was spending time outdoors, caring for animals, worshipping at church, or simply being with family, Raymond found true joy in life’s simple pleasures.

A devoted servant of Christ, Raymond’s faith guided every step of his journey. He was a avid member of his church community and participated in the Walk to Emmaus, forming bonds of fellowship and sharing his steadfast belief with others. His example of humble service left a lasting impact on all who knew him.

An outdoorsman at heart, Raymond found joy in God’s creation—whether he was hunting, fishing, caring for animals, or simply spending time with his family. He was at his happiest outside, yet his most cherished moments were those spent in worship or engaged with his loved ones. His fondness for animals, gatherings at church, and endless adventures with his friends and family defined a legacy of joy and togetherness.

Raymond’s final years were marked by resilience in the face of Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s Disease, and even as his health declined, his faith and humor never waned. His impact on those who knew him—family, friends, and the wider community—will remain strong for years to come.

Details for a service to celebrate Raymond’s life will be announced at a later date. In the meantime, the family invites loved ones to remember Raymond by spending time outdoors, sharing a kind word, or loving each other fully—just as he did each day.

“Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.” Ecclesiastes 12:7.

Raymond Allen Hunter will be deeply missed, but his laughter, love, and faith will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him.
