Raymond "Ray" Albert Koskela, 77, a long-time resident of Big Traverse, passed away at home on March 30, 2025 from a heart attack. He was born at his family home in Florida Location on August 18, 1947, a son of Albert Isaac Koskela.
Ray had worked as a crane operator for C&H, a commercial fisherman, and numerous other jobs up until he was disabled from an automobile accident. He married the love of his life, Terry (Hiltunen) Koskela on September 10, 1983. She preceded him in death in 2016.
Ray enjoyed having a beer, campfires, fishing, hunting, and visiting with his family and friends. Ray also loved spending time with his favorite side-kick, a grandson, Caleb Koskela. He selflessly cared for his father and wife until the end of their time, and would willingly lend a hand to anyone in need. He was able to brighten any room with his smile and laughter, and had the best stories of growing up. He knew people everywhere he went, and was known as a social butterfly.
Preceding him in death was his father, Albert Isaac Koskela, wife Terri Koskela, in-laws Darlene & Jerry Hiltunen and sister-in-law Sue Grant.
Surviving are his children Kristi Koskela and Kevin Koskela (Nicole Saari), grandson Caleb Koskela, in-laws Beth & Leo Farmer, Mike (Marianne) Hiltunen, many nephews and cousins, and a special friend Kevin Dilny.
As requested, a celebration of life will be held by his family at his home in Big Traverse at a later time. The Erickson Crowley Peterson Funeral Home is assisting the family with the cremation.
