Raymond Joseph Mobbs, age 91, passed away peacefully on October 7, 2025 at his home with family around him. Raymond was born November 10, 1933, in Essex, VT at home. He grew up on his father's farm in Jericho, where he graduated in 1954 from Jericho High School. On November 19, 1955 he married Grace Elizabeth Sweeney at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church in Richmond, VT. They were married for 62 years. Raymond belonged to the Vermont National Guard for 14 plus years.
Raymond was a long time resident of Jericho where he and Grace lived and raised their three children. Raymond in his younger years worked on farms until he entered the plumbing trade. He worked at Lowell & Austin for 23 years as a foreman until he left and started his own business with his 2 sons. He ran the business R.J. Mobbs & Sons, Inc. for 15 years until retirement and the sons took it over as "The Mobbs Boys". In his retirement, due to his love and passion for gardening, he tended a five acre garden known as "Grandpa's Garden" at Fay's Corner in Richmond. Right up until 2023, he had a half acre garden at his home that he loved sharing with his neighbors. Raymond was predeceased by his wife, Grace, along with his parents Benjamin and Gladys (Labelle) Mobbs, his son Daniel, brothers James, Francis (Madeline), Robert (Gloria), Edward (Ann), Richard and sisters Shirley (Conrad) Yost, and Kathleen.
Raymond is survived by: one daughter and one son, Cathy (Leonard) Blanchard, Randall (Sueanne) Mobbs; one brother and one sister, Lawrence Mobbs (Sharon Bourne), Marie (Richard) Bruley; five granddaughters Twila Chafai, Kitty (Jeremy) Holbrook, Tiffany Mobbs, Brittany Mobbs (David Molnar), Emily (Kyle) Langlois, step-granddaughter Michele Roberge.
Six great granddaughters and two great grandsons, Meredith and Megan (Johnathan Bushey) Holbrook, Selena Molnar, Zakaria and Hana Chafai, Gracie Robar and Kiera and Joseph Langlois. Also numerous special nieces and nephews that helped Raymond out when needed.
Gathering will be at Gifford Funeral Home in Richmond, VT, Tuesday October 14, 2025, from 5-7 pm. Church service is October 15, 2025 at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, Richmond, VT, at 11:00 am. Burial after will be at Jericho Center Cemetery. To send flowers to the family or plant a tree in memory of Raymond, please visit our floral store.
