Obituary of Raymond Ronald Scott

Raymond R. Scott, age 77, of Iowa City, passed away on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, at his home.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. on Monday, September 29, 2025, at Gay and Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service. A private family graveside service with military honors will be held at Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Born on May 31, 1948, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City, Ray was the son of Roy and Rose (Cerny) Scott. He graduated from City High School in 1966. Ray was drafted into the United States Army and served during the Vietnam War. He was Honorably Discharged on March 1, 1974. Ray hauled LP gas with his dad before opening Scott Trucking. He primarily hauled for Iowa River Products and would haul grain in the fall for local farmers. Ray retired from trucking in 2018.

He was united in marriage to Virginia Humphrey on May 30, 1998, at their home. He enjoyed spending time with his family and his dogs, playing cards, canasta, and trips to the casino. He and Ginny took trips north to the Upper Peninsula and Duluth to spend time snowmobiling or 4-wheeling. Ray always enjoyed a sausage, pepperoni, extra cheese, well done pizza from Pagliai's. He was always willing to help a neighbor in need or lend a piece of equipment. He will be remembered for his STRONG opinions.

Ray's family includes his sister, Rosemary Chown of Melrose, WI; brothers-in-law, Guy Smith of Iowa City and Virgil Johnson of Ottumwa; a sister-in-law, Iris Scott of North Liberty; nieces and nephews: Linda Baschnagel (Marshall Brown), Brenda (Gary) Sanders, Kristi Stasi, Robert Scott, William (Marla) Scott, Joe (Kelly) Smith, Scott Smith, Sr., Andy (Lisa) Chown, Bret Chown, Brad (Lori) Chown, Angela Chown; great-nieces and nephews: Scotty Smith, Jr., Sydnie Smith (Shane Graf), Marissa Smith, Miranda (Will) Avey; and a close friend of his and Ginny's, Heather Kauder (Bart).

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ginny; brothers, Roy Scott, Jr. and Richard Scott; sisters, Roylene Johnson and Ruth Smith; and a nephew, Larry Baschnagel.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Family of Raymond Scott.
