Obituary of Robert E. Sass

Robert E. "Bob" Sass, age 70 of rural West Liberty died at his home Friday, September 19, 2025, following years of physical illness.

A public visitation will be held from 4 to 7 pm Tuesday, September 23, 2025, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Private family graveside services will take place at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City. Memorial donations can be made in his memory to Iowa City Animal Care and Adoption Center.

Robert Eugene Sass was born July 9, 1955, in Iowa City. Growing up here he attended schools here graduating from West High School with the Class of 1973. After high school he became a Union Journeyman Iron worker, then worked for years at the former Town and Country Furnishings in Coralville, and then for over 30 years worked for the University of Iowa retiring from the Water Chiller Department. Bob enjoyed his lifetime connections to this area, liked fishing , mushrooming, gardening, playing cards and the Green Bay Packers.

His family includes his wife, Jeanette; his son, David; grandchildren, Jason Sass and Gavin Lemay; and Bob's sister, Debora Sass-Hansen (Steve Sorensen).

Bob was preceded in death by his mother, Betty Sass; brother, David Sass; son, Michael Sass, and father-in-law, Ken Parrott.
