Growing up Ray enjoyed his little mini farm with his parents, brother and sister, a pig, cow, chickens and his dog. He loved his motorcycles and cars and for several years he and his brother raced go carts. He graduated from Shawnee Schools in 1949 and started working at Hayes Albion/Trim Trends in Spencerville from 1949 until 2003 as a tool and die maker retiring after 54 ½ years. Unless it was icy, he enjoyed riding his motorcycle so much that he rode it every day to work. Ray ran a small buffing shop out of his garage when he lived in Lima and was well known for his buffing and chrome plating skills. In fact, he was contracted to buff and chrome plate the handles and engine on the Locomotive at the Allen County Museum. Many car owners in the day hired him to beatify the chrome on their antique cars. Ray, with his wife of 58 years, had many ventures in life from raising seven children, enjoying farming, raising their own beef and owned and operated R & R Engine Service for 20 years. They went on many camping trips and vacations traveling all over the country on their motorcycle. They were members of GWRRA Motorcycle Group Lima Chapter N and they were Chapter Directors for a few years. They were also active members of Agape Fellowship Church, rural Spencerville. Ray loved dogs and had many over the years and enjoyed walking to his woods with his last one named Pippy. When his wife Rose became a patient in a nursing home, every day for eight years he would visit and set by her bedside and take her on walks in a wheelchair until she passed. He was an amazing husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. For so many years, Ray was blessed to be able to be so active up until his passing, to enjoy his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He loved them all so very much. His biggest pleasure in life was spending time with his family and friends.
