Raymond "Sonny" Wilson Dove III, a loving and caring individual, passed away on January 16, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of devotion and protection. Sonny was born on May 15, 1951, in Mecklenburg County. As a caregiver to his mother during her years of illness, he exemplified the true meaning of dedication and selflessness. His strong bond with his family, especially the female members, showcased his protective nature and unwavering support.
Sonny's life journey led him to serve in the United States Navy, where he dutifully dedicated himself to his country. His military service reflects his sense of duty and commitment not only to his loved ones but also to the greater good of society.
Outside of his military career, Sonny had a profound love for sailing and was known for his skill as an avid gunsman. These hobbies brought him great joy and allowed him to cultivate memorable experiences throughout his life.
Sonny's family held an important place in his heart. He was preceded in death by his father, Raymond Wilson Dove Jr., and his mother, Kathryn Britt McClure. He is survived by Marie Dotson of Corinth, MS (half-sister), Lisa Huff of Corinth, MS (Step-sister), Ashley and Shaye (nieces). His lifelong best friend David Bailey of Concord, NC stood by him through thick and thin.
Furthermore, Sonny cherished the close bond he shared with Tina Heatley & husband Mark of Charlotte, NC who were among his many maternal cousins. He treasured their companionship and the memories they created together.
Although not human family members, Kate & Samantha (his canine companions) were an integral part of Sonny's life. They brought him immense joy and comfort throughout their shared journey. The love he had for them was reciprocated in abundance.
Sonny will be remembered for his loving nature, selfless acts, and unwavering devotion. His legacy of caregiving and protection will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to have known him. He touched the lives of with his kindness and left an indelible mark on the hearts of all had the privilege of knowing him.
In honoring Sonny's memory, let us upon his remarkable life and celebrate the profound impact he had on the lives of others. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
A celebration of life will be scheduled at a later date.
