Raymond Eugene "Butch" Sopher, age 81, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully on March 11, 2025, surrounded by family and loved ones. He was born on October 29, 1943, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, to Anna Mae and Arthur Ray Sopher.
Raymond was a man of many passions, a loving husband, father, and grandfather, whose life was filled with simple joys and meaningful hobbies. He had a lifelong love for steam trains, often making the trip to Colorado to see the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad, a sight that always brought him joy. His craftsmanship was evident in his woodworking skills, and he found great satisfaction in his work as a tractor mechanic, often dedicating hours to tinkering and repairing.
Raymond was also a proud member of the Kiwanis Club of Capitol Hill High School, as an alumnus, where he built lasting friendships and memories. He loved spending time outdoors, whether it was sitting outside to enjoy the weather or taking trips to Lake Texoma and spending time with his dog, "Buddy". Family gatherings were incredibly important to him, and he cherished these moments of togetherness.
Raymond is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Carolyn Sopher; daughters Shelley Sheets and Ladonna Fansler (husband Rollie); grandchildren Kyle Sheets, Brett Sheets, Ashley Fansler-Welsh (husband John), Jordan Fansler, and Piper Fansler; great-grandchildren Lucillia Welsh and one on the way, William Eugene Welsh. He is also survived by his cousin Raymond Cantrell; brother Gerald Sopher, sister Katheryn Nolan, and many sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Anna Mae and Arthur Ray Sopher, his uncle Corb Cantrell, and his cousins Vivian Scott and Bob Cantrell.
