Roger Johnson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by John M. Ireland & Son Funeral Home and Chapel on Jan. 25, 2026.
Roger Edwin Johnson, age 79, passed away on January 18, 2026. He was born on April 30, 1946, to Lawrence Edwin Johnson and Betty Jo Johnson.
Roger was a proud and disabled Vietnam veteran who served his country with honor. Throughout his life, he remained resilient, thoughtful, and deeply devoted to his family. Family always came first for Roger, and nowhere was his love more evident than in the joy he found with his grandchildren, whom he cherished above all else. Roger had a quiet joy for life's simple pleasures. He could often be found playing spider solitaire for hours, enjoying a good movie, or spending time with his beloved dogs. Over the years, he owned many Russian Keeshonds, each one dearly loved. Roger was also a published author, a testament to his thoughtful nature and creative spirit.
Roger is survived by his devoted wife, Mary Jane, of 62 years, whom he married on September 12 in Plymouth, Michigan. He is also survived by his son, Anthony Eugene Johnson, and daughter-in-law, Melissa Johnson, and his daughter-in-law, Docia Wilson, and her husband, Marty Wilson.
He leaves behind nine grandchildren: Lance Johnson; Cory Johnson and his wife Marie; Brandy Johnson; Jimmy Dutton and his wife Casey; Tristen Johnson and his wife Summer; Aleya Taberra and her fiancé Jake Krag; Sara Wilson; and Kolten Johnson. He was also blessed with four great-grandchildren: Aria, Izzabella, Josephine, and Laurence.
Roger is further survived by his siblings: brothers Gary and Charlie, and sisters Rene, Karen, Pamela, and Jeanie. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Betty Jo Johnson; his son, Roger Johnson Jr.; his brother, Mike Johnson.
Roger will be remembered for his steadfast love for his family, his gentle presence, his service to his country, and the quiet moments he shared with those he loved most. His legacy lives on through the many lives he touched and the family he held so dear.
