Raymond Tuggey Obituary

Raymond Palmer Tuggey, 86, of Pittsfield, MA, passed peacefully on February 2, 2026, surrounded by family.

After graduating from Pittsfield High School in 1957 and the University of Vermont in 1961 with a B.A. in Geology, Ray married his high school sweetheart, Mary (Porter), and built a joy-filled life of family, service, and fun. He spent 35 years with General Electric and 43 years with the Jiminy Peak Ski Patrol, earning a lifetime Golden Ski Pass.

A local legend for hitting a home run out of Wahconah Park as a high school student, Ray was always ready for a good joke and a good time-skiing, boating, hiking, kayaking, cheering from the stands, or being the life of the party or a Beachwood campfire.

He was predeceased by his parents, Raymond Frederick and Adele (Palmer) Tuggey, and his sisters, Ruth Bracklein and Jean Davis. Ray is survived by his wife of 65 years, Mary; his sister, Caryl Tuggey; and his four sons: Rick and Maureen of Lenox; Tom and Kelly of Pittsfield, whose children are Erica (Greg Rotundo; children John and Elizabeth), Caitlyn (Joe Harrington; children Owen, Kellan, and Miles), Brett, and Ryan (Aubrey; children Wesley and Murphy); Terry and Laurel of Soda Springs, NV; and Todd and Genny of Atlanta, GA, whose children are Porter, Emerson, and Grady.

A Service of Celebration will be held Saturday, February 7, at 11 a.m., with visitation at 10 a.m., at Dery Funeral Home, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Berkshire Humane Society.

The family thanks all who loved Ray-and teased him right back.

Dear Mary,
Jim Heil let me know of Ray´s death. We have fond memories of our years in Pittsfield with GE. The children remember water skiing with your boys with Ray at the helm. I hope you are adjusting to your new life; it takes time (or never) We lost Dean in October after several years with Alzheimer´s. He was good and though needing
care, he was a pleasure to have here at home and much missed. My love to you and family.

Hi Mary and Family,
So sorry to hear about Ray's passing. He and I were close friends when we were young, but saw each other only seldom as we got older and followed different paths. He was a grand person, able to mix humor with sincere thoughts. I miss him a lot! -- Art Palmer (cousin).

Dear Mary and family: -- So sorry to hear of Ray's passing.... My memories of him go way back into the days when we were kids and he and I would share stories and goof around racing and wrestling, always in fun. He was older enough that I would consider him to be a big brother -- someone I could play with, but look up to as a model. Even though we folIowed different paths in later years, I still miss him a lot, and it's sad to think that he's gone. My sincere condolences to you and the rest of your family.

Love,
Cousin Art (Palmer)

So sorry for your loss. Ray was the ultimate joker. Supplied my kids with their first banana bikes so they could race around Beachwood in the summer. He had a big heart. I always thought Mary had 5 kids! He will be missed. Flo
