Raymond “Ray” Joseph Vanden Boogart, age 79 of King, WI passed away on December 3, 2025. He was born to the late Joseph and Katherine (Blahnik) Vanden Boogart on June 28, 1946 in Appleton, WI. After graduating from high school, Ray enlisted with the Army to fight in the Vietnam conflict, later transferring to the Marine Corps before his honorable discharge in 1981. Ray worked at Akrosil Corporation for over 21 years, retiring in 2005. Ray married his first love, Susan Wassenburg, in 1974 before her passing in 1995. Ray eventually found love again with Kathleen “Kathy” Wieseler, with whom he had a close relationship until her passing in 2018.
Ray and Kathy enjoyed going dancing, going out for dinner, and watching movies. Ray was patient, generous, and devoted to Kathy and her daughter, Christine. He belonged to Bethany Lutheran Church. Ray was an avid fan of the Packers, Brewers, and Badgers. He was a member of the Vietnam Veterans of America, the Order of the Purple Heart, Disabled American Veterans, the American Legion Post 38, and the VFW Post 02778. He made friends wherever he went. Ray will be missed by many.
Ray is survived by Kathy’s daughter, Christine (Ben) Wieseler; his siblings, Tom (Nancy) Vanden Boogart and Linda Dilts; as well as several nieces, nephews, other extended relatives, and dear friends.
Ray is preceded in death by his wife, Susan Wassenberg; his partner, Kathy Wieseler; his parents, Joseph and Katherine Vanden Boogart; his siblings, James Vanden Boogart and Dorothy “Dottie” Bartman; and his brother-in-law, David Dilts.
A funeral visitation will be held from 10-11 AM on Monday, December 15, 2025 in the Star of Hope Chapel at Highland Memorial Park, 3131 N. Richmond St, Appleton, WI 54911 with a funeral service to follow at 11 AM. Ray will be laid to rest immediately after the service. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Disabled American Veterans.
