Raymond T. Zawislak

Raymond T. Zawislak, 83, passed away on August 3, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. Ray was born on October 5, 1941, in Marche, Arkansas, a proud member of the local Polish community. He spent his early years attending Immaculate Heart of Mary Church before his family moved to North Little Rock. There, he became a student at St. Mary’s Catholic Church and Elementary School, later graduating from Catholic High School in 1960. He often spoke of the lasting influence of Father Tribou, one of his greatest mentors.

He continued his education at the University of Central Arkansas, where he earned both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in education. His teaching career began at Immaculate Conception Catholic School, where he began shaping young minds and laying the foundation for what would become a lifelong commitment to education and service.

Ray was a man of deep faith, and his Catholic values shaped every aspect of his life. He prayed the Rosary daily, joining a live broadcast from Lourdes, France, and remained a loyal member of the Knights of Columbus at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Through that brotherhood, he found another avenue to serve his parish and community.

Ray was preceded in death by his parents, Ted and Marie Lensing Zawislak, and his brother, Fred Zawislak. He is survived by his brother, Al Zawislak; his beloved wife, Christa Zawislak; his children, Angie (Jeff) Rollison, Robert Zawislak, and Ted (Melissa) Zawislak; and his bonus daughter, Kirsten (Jess) Batts. He was a proud grandfather to Zack (Carah) Rollison, Aaron Rollison, Freddie Zawislak, and Haley Zawislak; and bonus grandfather to Mia and Gabriel Waddell. He was also blessed with great-grandchildren, Zera and Cora Rollison. Ray is also survived by his nephew, John (Vera) Zawislak, and his niece, Jan Marie Zawislak (Mark) Miller; many cousins; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.

Family was at the center of Ray’s life. He remained closely connected to his loved ones, offering steady support, quiet encouragement, and genuine interest in their lives. He especially treasured gathering around the table—whether for a home-cooked meal or a favorite restaurant—with the people he loved. Sharing food and conversation was one of his favorite ways to connect and celebrate life.

Later in life, Ray and Christa found each other and quickly became inseparable. Together, they built a joyful life rooted in faith, laughter, and community. They volunteered side by side at their church and through Friendship International, where Ray loved using his teaching background to help international students prepare for American citizenship. Their shared passions also led them to the dance floor—Ray especially enjoyed square dancing with Christa, a pastime that brought them joy, movement, and music. He was a devoted listener of 1950s music and found comfort in the familiar rhythms of his youth.

Ray was curious about the world and loved exploring it. He traveled often with family, and one of his greatest joys was fulfilling his lifelong dream of visiting Rome. During a pilgrimage with Father West, he had the unforgettable honor of reading scripture at St. Peter’s Basilica. When closer to home, Ray enjoyed spending time outdoors with his sons, playing chess or cards with his grandson, and simply soaking in the small joys of everyday life with those around him.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 10, 2025, from 3:30 to 4:30 PM at Smith Family Funeral Home in North Little Rock, followed by a rosary at 4:30 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, August 11, 2025, at 10:30 AM at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in North Little Rock. Burial will follow at Immaculate Heart of Mary Cemetery in Marche.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Immaculate Conception’s Music Ministry program.

Ray will be remembered for his quiet strength, his deep and constant faith, his gentle presence, and the unwavering love he offered to his family, students, and community throughout his life.
