Raynard McCormick Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Sweet Home Funeral Chapel on Feb. 11, 2026.
Raynard "Ray" or "Butch" Edward McCormick Jr., age 86, of Brownsville, passed away peacefully on February 10, 2026. He was born October 25, 1939 in Iola, Kansas to Cecille (Farrell) and Raynard Edward McCormick Sr.

Ray grew up in Mexico, Missouri until his high school years when the family moved to South San Francisco. He went on to college at Santa Clara University and graduate school at Oregon State University (Go Beavers!) as an electrical engineer.

He worked at Lockheed Martin and Sylvania in the San Francisco Bay Area before moving to Southern California to work for McDonnell Douglas in Huntington Beach, California. While working for McDonnell Douglas he was involved with a solar program in the Mojave Desert. Some of the software he created for the solar project is still used in the industry today. He met his wife, Linda, while playing volleyball at the apartment complex they both lived in. They moved to the Portland, Oregon area in 1981. He worked for Electro Scientific Industries (ESI) and ended up later at Tektronix working on color printers. Just before his retirement Xerox bought the company and he worked for them long enough to get his pension. By that time, the couple had bought a home in Brownsville, where they lived until his death.

Ray loved the outdoors, watching sports and was an avid stock market watcher. He was very supportive of his wife's civic activities even though he kept asking when she was going to retire!

Ray is survived by his wife, Linda (Lewis) McCormick; cousins; many friends and past co-workers. His sister, Sharon K. McCormick preceded him in death in 2022.

A celebration of life will be planned in the future. Sweet Home Funeral Chapel is handling arrangements. www.sweethomefuneral.com.

I met Butch when we were students at South San Francisco High School. In our senior year we were in the fourth year math class Trigonometry and Solid Geometry. I was one of two girls in the class and we all continued our practice of passing surreptitious notes when the teacher wasn´t looking. After graduation in 1957, we all went our separate ways but we reconnected at our 50th reunion.
My husband and I had the great fun of TWICE visiting Butch and Linda at the "Stand By Me" festivities. We continued our friendship over the internet sharing updates of our doings. I´ll miss my friend and his sly humor.

Ray made a simple vacation into some of the greatest memories. He was a man of many talents and could repair almost anything. Ray was a big kid and a joker. He is loved and missed by so many. RIP Ray, I love you and miss you.
