RD Ables

RD Ables, 81, of Elk City, Oklahoma was born on August 12, 1943 in Gorman, Texas to Harmon Columbus and Lucy Inze (Culland) Ables. RD was suddenly diagnosed with advanced stage lung cancer and looked upon the face of his Lord and Savior on Friday, June 27, 2025 at Saint Ann's Skilled Nursing & Therapy, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

RD married his best-friend and soul-mate, Betty Lou Williams on March 6, 1965. Together they raised their family and enjoyed many years of marriage. Betty preceded him in death on October 9, 2003.

RD dedicated the majority of his professional life to the Oil and Gas Industry, beginning at Loffland Brothers Drilling, then assuming a consulting role at Anson, and concluding his career with Weatherford International, where he served as shop manager.

RD took great pleasure in going on lengthy road trips on his Harley trike, covering thousands of miles and discovering various places. He liked stopping by Janice's Cafe, where he would enjoy coffee and socialize with his friends. RD's favorite holiday was Thanksgiving, a time he valued for bonding with his family. He had a deep personal relationship with God and attended The Way Church, Elk City, Oklahoma. RD treasured spending time with his children, grandchildren and friends, he will be deeply missed and greatly remembered by all who knew and loved him.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 8, 2025 at Eastland City Cemetery, Eastland, Texas. Interment will be at Eastland City Cemetery, Eastland, Texas. Services have been entrusted to the care of Richard and Tammy Dugger and the staff of Martin-Dugger Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Elk City, Oklahoma.

Cherishing his memory is one daughter, Rhonda Herring, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; one son, Russell Ables of Ponca City, Oklahoma; three grandchildren, Colton Herring of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Haylee Herring of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Riley Ables of Elk City, Oklahoma; and other relatives and friends.

RD is preceded in death by his loving wife, Betty Lou Ables; his parents, Harmon Columbus and Lucy Inze Ables; four brothers, Elmer Ables, Gearld Ables, and Gaylon Ables, and his twin brother, JD Ables.
