Reba "Jean" Carter Baxter, lovingly known as "Nanny," age 87, of Malone, FL, peacefully passed away on Friday, September 5, 2025, at her home, surrounded by her devoted family. Born on December 24, 1937, to the late Raymond and Jewel Carter in Gerty, OK. Jean lived her life with a spirit full of love and compassion.
A loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, Jean will be remembered for her unwavering dedication to her family and community. She met the love of her life, Norman Baxter, in Bakersville, CA, and they married in 1956, ultimately settling in Malone, where they built their life together. As a talented seamstress, Jean worked at Chipola Mills and Russell Corporation until her retirement. She was an active and beloved member of Friendship Baptist Church, where she joyfully served in various roles including WMU Member, Sunday School teacher for children, and a member of the Ruth Sunday School class until her health no longer allowed.
Jean had a passion for gathering her family for love-filled meals, where she expressed her affection through her delicious cooking. Her famous Brunswick Stew, Pound Cake, and Chocolate and Biscuit recipes will be treasured and passed down through generations. With her kind spirit and warm heart, she was affectionately known as "Nanny" to everyone who was fortunate enough to cross her path.
In addition to her parents, Jean is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 55 years, Norman, as well as her two brothers, Sonny Carter (Emma Jean) and Reed Carter, and her two sisters, Erma and Ellen Jane Carter.
Jean leaves behind a loving legacy, including her children, Pamela McArthur (Larry), Mitch Baxter (Vicki), and Keith Baxter (Gina). She will be deeply missed by her cherished grandchildren, Joanna Padgett (Lee), Jennifer McArthur, Gannon Baxter (Crystal), Jim McArthur (Damara), Hannah Pickels (Travis), Lindsey Kepner (Jonathan), Emily Peeler (Kyle) and Brannon Baxter (Rachel). Her great-grandchildren, who brought her much joy, include Hunter Padgett, Trevor Padgett (fiancée Emilie), Atlynn McArthur, Allie Pickels, Cassidy McArthur, Wyatt Pickels, Ellie Rose McArthur, Wes Peeler, Kash Kepner, Grayson Baxter, Reagan Peeler, and Cori Kepner.
The family will welcome friends for visitation on Monday, September 8, 2025, at Marianna Chapel Funeral Home from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, September 9, 2025 at Friendship Baptist Church, officiated by Brother Nash Wills and Brother Ed Ham.

Burial will follow at Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery with Marianna Chapel directing.

Jean's grandsons and great-grandsons will proudly serve as pallbearers, honoring her loving spirit.
The family expresses heartfelt gratitude to Emerald Coast Hospice and special caregivers Peggy, Cynthia, and Stephanie for their love and compassion during Jean's final days.
