Rebecca Marie "Becky" Dillon touched the lives of everyone who knew her during her 85 years on this earth. She was a kind soul, a nurturer, and the embodiment of all that is good in this world. Some say love is caring more for someone else than for yourself, and by that definition, Becky was love itself. Her love for her family and friends ran deep, and she never missed a chance to let them know how much she cherished them.
Born in Monroe County, West Virginia, Becky came into this world with a story to tell. She was born on either June 22 or June 23, 1940, depending on which birth certificate you believe. The hospital made an error and issued two certificates, and she loved to joke that she was special enough to deserve two birthdays. And special, she most definitely was.
When asked, "What set her apart from others?" the answer is simple: everything.
By her own words, her life truly began when she married the love of her life, Jay. They were married for 54 years, though they spent a lifetime together, having grown up across the street from one another. They loved to travel, especially with her late sister and brother-in-law, Delma and Lawrence Conner. Her favorite destination was Dollywood, which was fitting for her country roots. Dolly Parton, Elvis Presley, or Conway Twitty could all be found in her 8-track lineup.
Becky was the original homemaker who could cook, clean, garden, can, crochet, or quilt like no one else. She was famous for her spaghetti (one bowl was never enough), her peanut butter fudge, and her chocolate fudge that could ruin any diet. Breakfast was always served with a slice of tomato on the side, and a pot of beans on the stove was a staple at dinnertime. She loved cooking and taking care of others through food.
If you sat in her kitchen, you could expect to be offered an RC Cola and something to eat every few minutes until you finally gave in. Her house was a home where no one left hungry and everyone felt loved. This love extended to animals, too. She adored her pets and spoiled each one shamelessly, especially her beloved fur baby, Spanky, and the very well-fed chipmunks who live in her front yard.
Those who knew her describe her as kind, sweet, and "the boss." She was gentle yet feisty, with eyes that could comfort you without a word, letting you know everything would be okay or that you were in big trouble. She was the "baby whisperer," able to turn a fussy baby into a cooing one like magic. She was a safe place.
Becky loved to laugh, and when she did, it was infectious. Her humor was silly and full of joy, the kind that could brighten any day. She had a love for mowing her yard on her zero-turn mower; hills, dips, and sharp turns were of no concern to her. She loved to garden and waged a daily war on weeds. Not a single one ever stood a chance. When her hand tools weren't enough, she would grab her mini chainsaw to get the job done. She was fiercely independent and kept her family both in awe and on edge.
Her children, Donna (Mark) Anderson, Darrell (Brenda) Dillon, and her late daughter, Patty Ousley, were her heart. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy. There's still an ongoing debate over who her favorite grandchild was, though when pressed, all she would say was, "I love all my grandchildren." (For the record, some of the contenders include Mindy, Danielle, Jenny, Pete, Nick, Jaime, Josh, Jon, Joey, Shaun, and Michelle, Shaun #2, Ashley, Mindy #2, Karey and Danny, listed in no particular order.)
The truth is, she adored every one of her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren with her whole heart equally. This love also includes many nieces, nephews, cousins, all family and friends, too many to name, but each deeply loved.
Becky was an avid blanket maker and spent countless hours crocheting and quilting. She especially loved doing this with her church group, Blanket Blessings, helping others in need and spreading warmth and kindness to people she might never meet.
Among all the wonderful things that only begin to describe her, Becky's faith was one of the most defining and important parts of her life. She loved the Lord deeply and spoke of Him often, praying not just for her family and friends but for anyone in need. Every morning, no matter what pain or challenges she faced, she would thank God for another beautiful day. She was a devoted member of the First Nazarene Church in Wadsworth and later the Nazarene Church of Sullivan.
Becky's faith carried her through countless challenges, including the loss of loved ones such as her beloved daughter and husband, among others. She was a breast cancer survivor, endured heart and thyroid surgeries, and lived with diabetes. Yet through it all, she remained optimistic, grateful, and humble. She would say, "If I know you're okay, then I'll be okay," and she meant it. It was a rare occasion to ever hear her complain about anything.
Her heart was rooted in faith, and everything she touched grew in love. Her strength, warmth, and compassion will continue to live on and inspire everyone she leaves behind.
Becky was a lover of life and a fighter to the end. On Saturday, November 8, 2025, she traded her earthly body for eternal peace. Reunited with Jay, Patty, and all her loved ones who have been waiting for her, she is now dancing on the golden streets of Heaven and rejoicing in the name of the Lord.
"Her life was a prayer, her kindness a ministry, and her love a reflection of God."
Becky was preceded in death by her husband, Jay Dillon; her daughter, Patty Ousley; her parents; and her siblings.
She is survived by her children, Donna (Mark) Anderson and Darrell (Brenda) Dillon; and her cherished fur baby, Spanky. She also leaves behind countless nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren - too many to name, but all loved just the same.
If you would like to pay your respects to one of the most angelic souls to ever walk this earth, visitation will be held on Friday, November 14, 2025, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Cox-McNulty Funeral Home at 1376 High Street, Wadsworth, Ohio. A celebration of her life will begin at 1 p.m. with graveside services immediately following at Hillcrest Cemetery in Seville, Ohio.
