Rebecca Brooke Holcombe went to be with our Heavenly Father April 2nd, 2024, at 36 years of age.  Born October 5, 1987, in Charlotte, she lived in Huntersville but now her feet stroll on the streets of gold.

Brooke earned a bachelor's degree from North Carolina State University in both event planning and psychology and one of her favorite jobs was with the Town of Cornelius where she planned events for parks and recs.  She also loved working at Pet Paradise, Lake Norman where she was pleased to care for a rottweiler weighing more than she did.

December 3, 2023, Brooke was engaged to Scott Presley, whom she described as the love of her life, and they were in the process of planning a wedding on the sands of Hilton Head near the beach house her family had owned when the Lord unexpectedly called her to her heavenly home. Perhaps it was the shortest love story, but it was extremely touching to watch them weather this final storm of life side by side.  Brooke recently posted this on her Facebook page, “I Have to Say I’ve Been Through a Lot Since 2014 When My Dad Passed Away but I Have Never Been This Happy!! Thank You GOD For Bringing Scott into My Life!!”

As a young girl, her grandaddy called Brooke his little “Tadpole” because she was his youngest granddaughter with a love and compassion for all God’s creatures, frogs, toads, birds and even caterpillars that would one day be beautiful butterflies.

Brooke’s love, genuineness, childlike glee, and the ability to connect with children made her a favorite of little ones everywhere and especially Scott’s three tiny little granddaughters, Chelsea, Savannah, and Cierra.

The Boston Red Sox were one of her favorite sport teams to cheer for. The spectacular colors of sunsets over the lake or beach captivated Brooke as we see in her photos.

Quite often, Brooke sacrificed food for herself to feed a family in need.  She was kind to everyone she met and became a fast favorite among the hospital staff throughout her many visits with her beautiful smile and laughter.   She had the personality and natural charisma to make friends no matter the situation, and her laugh was infectious to all.

Brooke rarely complained and lived life with cheerfulness, a sincere love for life and cherished everyday.  As so many of her friends noted, she encouraged and inspired them to enjoy and be thankful for every day. Last November, one of her friends asked what her go to verse was, and Brooke responded, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” (Philippians 4:13)

A truly great lady, Brooke’s impact will be forever felt by her family who love her dearly. She was a selfless treasured woman whose passing left an unfillable gap in the hearts of her loved ones. Her ability to sacrifice, provide, support, forgive, and love will be forever engrained in all she knew.

Brooke is survived by her mom, Donna Rucker Holcombe; sister, Michelle Holcombe and Joey Lovingood; sister, Jessica Holcombe and Kaspar Thacker; fiancé, Scott Presley; Aunt Becky and Uncle Charles Rader; Aunt Debbie and Uncle Dana Rucker and Aunt Judy Rucker.  Brooke is also survived by cousins, Kathy Grey, Joy Rucker and spouse Joey Bakker, Dana and Rebecca Rucker, John Rader and David Rader, Joseph and Jenny Rucker, Summy Rucker, and Aaron and Sarah Rucker.  Brooke is now with her family in heaven, her dad, Christopher Holcombe, grandparents, Dana and Mary Rucker, Johnny and Nina Holcombe, Uncle Joe Rucker and her faithful, loyal dog, Styles.

A celebration of life will take place at 2:00 p.m., May 18, 2024 at Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home, 16901 Old Statesville Rd., Huntersville, NC 28078 and Brooke’s family will receive extended family, friends, and guests prior to the service at 1:00 p.m. at the same location.
