Rebecca L. McCarthy, 80, of La Porte, Indiana, passed away on Tuesday, July 30, 2024 at Brickyard Healthcare-Terrace Care Center.
Rebecca was born in La Porte, IN, on August 10, 1943 to Charles and Lorella (Freese) Schafer.
Surviving Rebecca are her 2 daughters, Lisa Newlon and Amy B. (Paul Schultz) Bluhm, both of La Porte; 4 grandchildren, Shane McCarthy of La Porte, Nicholas (Nicole Skwiat) Fratgillo of La Porte, Adam Riola of La Porte, and Delaney (Aaron Garcia) Bluhm of St. Paul, MN; 5 great-grandchildren, Kaden McCarthy, Cameron McCarthy, Kyra McCarthy, Sophia Riola, and Davinah Riola; sister, Jane Schafer of Elk Grove Village, IL; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son-in-law, Lel Newlon; and brother-in-law, Nelson Blengeri.
Rebecca worked many years at BJ Auto Supply. She was a member of Sacred Heart Church. Rebecca was an avid reader and loved Alaska, after living there in 1969.
Cremation has taken place with Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, La Porte.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Gathering will be held from 2 - 6 p.m. on Friday, August 9, 2024, at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Dunes Hospice, 4711 Evans Avenue, Valparaiso, IN 46383.
