Mrs. Rebecca Saenz Villarreal

Rebecca Saenz Villarreal, age 93, passed away after a brief illness. She lived with her daughter and son-in-law in Rusk, Texas. She was born in Concepcion, Texas to Rodolfo Saenz and Rafela Yzaguirre Saenz in 1933. She was preceded in death by both her parents and her siblings Fidel Saenz, Abelino Saenz, Liliana Saenz Flores and her son Jose Amando Garza and her late husband Pioquinto Villarreal. Rebecca is survived by her daughters Sylvia Carvajal Bennett and Ester Carvajal Treichel, her grandchildren, great grandchildren, her great great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She lived her final years with her family where she greatly enjoyed visiting with her great grandchildren who lived nearby. She always looked forward to her grandchildren and great grandchildren visiting with her. Her last Christmas was spent visiting with her great, great granddaughter and great grandchildren. She was overjoyed to have become a great-great grandmother as she only ever got to know her grandparents.

At an early age, Rebecca was taxed with having to run a household at 14 when her mother had become gravely ill and unable to care for her or her brothers and sister. However, she always spoke so fondly of her days at the ranch in Concepcion where she grew up. The Saenz ranches were next to one another, and she loved to visit with her grandmother who lived in the ranch next door.

In her later years, Rebecca remarried and enjoyed traveling in Texas with her late husband. Rebecca worked in various occupations as a caretaker. She spent many years caring for her husband who became bedridden after a serious illness. After his death, she left to the Rio Grande Valley to be closer to her children. When her children moved to East Texas she followed as well. She always lived independently until her last few years when she felt she needed to live with her family.

She will be greatly missed by her daughters, grandchildren and great grandchildren who loved her dearly.

Her memorial service will be held on Friday, March 6 from 6 to 8pm at the Wallace Thompson funeral home at 221 5th Street, in Rusk Texas. Her funeral Mass will be held at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church at 760 South Main, Rusk, Texas at 10 am on Saturday, March 7. Her remains will be buried at the Saenz Cemetery in Concepcion, Texas at a later date.
