Shuang from China here. Ms. Viz was one of my favorite and most important teachers in my life. Without her and the exchange program between DSHS and Hangzhou High School, I couldn´t have seen so much at a young age. We haven´t talked much since I went back to China-just a small reunion when she came to Hangzhou in 2009(?) and a few emails. But I always keep my dearest memories of Ms. Viz in my heart. I believe she´s done an immeasurably great job in making the world a better place, by promoting mutual understanding and breaking through segragation. Now I'm a geriatrician and palliative care pioneer in China. She's always with me in my path.

Becky will be missed; she will stay in my memory as the vibrant person whom I have known for the last 25 years. We met in 1999 or 2000 when I was working at Northeastern and she participated in a series of workshops that I facilitated for teachers. Shortly thereafter we started a Book Group on Historical Topics; it was a highlight of my life. The bimonthly meetings at her house were a fabulous way to stay connected with a group of thoughtful and engaging educators. In particular, I loved to swap stories with Becky about teaching, students, books, children, politics, travel, cooking, to name only a few topics ... In so doing her positive energy and outlook on life was contagious!

Mizz Viz. Rest in power and peace. I join Dave and Hannah in saying how incredible a teacher you were for us. Thank you for making me scour the Globe for articles on Sri Lanka and opening the world to me as a result. Thank you for understanding our teenage humor and in so doing, secretly teach us. Your message on your second to last day with us is one I will treasure. May your family know peace and comfort in this seismic loss - and may Light Loving Perpetual Shine.

Ms. Viz was one of my favorite and most important teachers. I still quote facts about the history of Iraq and the Kurds that I learned in a project I did for her. And she gave me so much support when I was preparing to go to Latvia with AFS. My deep condolences.

MsViz was a favorite teacher of mine and many others from our 10th grade Western Civ class in.. 1989-90. She took our antics in stride with grace and humour.

Ms. Viz as we called her was a very special teacher. She wasn´t an easy teacher, but we leaned so much. I was lucky enough to be welcomed into her cozy home to babysit her young daughter and I cherish those memories. We stayed in touch via holiday cards and occasional emails over the years. She was a wonderful, talented, intelligent, loving person who brought more to this world than maybe she will ever know through her years in education, fostering of international bonds, language, music, culture and family. I´m so lucky to have had a bit of that pixie dust sprinkled on me. Thank you Ms. Viz.

As anyone who knew her will attest, words will never capture the kindness and generosity of spirit that Becky Vizulis demonstrated every day of her life. She lived life to the fullest and made everyone and everything around her better. Her family, her students, her music, her peers and her work were her world. Her energy and faith were unwavering. Where others saw division and conflict, she saw potential for good. We need her now more than ever! There is no forgetting her smile or her grace.

Oh my, I am so saddened to read of Becky's passing. We have been out of touch for a long time now, but she was instrumental as a mentor during my early teaching career at DS. She was an inspiring history teacher who always pushed us to think differently and more broadly, especially in the global realm. Becky was the epitome of kindness, dedication, and the life-learning mission of a true intellectual. So many of us are far better citizens and people due to the great good fortune of having been part of her classrooms and her world. Heartfelt condolences to Andy and Arjana for your, and all of our, loss. -Kevin Delaney

Last summer, Becky and Andy hosted a small retirement dinner for me. Everything was absolutely exquisite. Hors d´oeuvres outside on their lovely lawn and a gourmet dinner inside their warm and beautiful home. I was completely bowled over by the attention to every detail. And the conversation was light and happy. It was truly one of the best, most memorable parties I´d ever been to.
I´d been told that Becky had a lung disease, but that it was being treated, and I had no idea to what extent it had progressed until we climbed the back stairs, bringing things in from the lawn. Becky had to stop on the way up, and when we reached the top, it took her several minutes to regain her breath. I was stunned that in that condition she would put on a party, and not just any party, but this amazing party.
Becky was thoughtfulness through and through. She brought majesty to the everyday, and made everyone around her feel special.
I miss her. Everyone who knew Becky misses her. To know her was a blessing.
