Regina “Gina” DeGroat, our beloved mom, passed away February 21, 2025, at her daughter's home surrounded by family and Hospice of the Red River Valley.
She was the best wife, sister, aunt, daughter, cousin, and most of all, the best mom and grandma.
Gina was born on May 27, 1950, to Harold and Edna (Olson) Peterson, their first born. Gina was raised in West Fargo, ND with her sisters, Mona and Debbie. While in high school she was a cheerleader and was in the Homecoming Court. She graduated in 1968.
Following graduation, she moved to Minneapolis for a short time and worked at a diner there. She then returned to West Fargo and worked at a bank.
She met Lyle DeGroat Jr., the love of her life, at a place called “The Rancho”. They married on October 24, 1970. They lived in West Fargo for a short time before moving to Glyndon, MN, where she worked for the DGF school district. They had two daughters, Tricia and Tanya.
Gina made many wonderful relationships while working at the school. After retirement they moved to Dilworth for a time before moving back to West Fargo. After her dementia diagnosis, Gina went to live with Tanya and Lee.
Gina had many interests; she bowled, played golf with Lyle, and loved ceramics and bingo. She enjoyed the lakes, but most of all she loved going to the casino with her sister, Debbie.
Gina is survived by her daughters, Tricia (Matt) Bryant, Camden, Arkansas, and Tanya (Lee) Ramsey, West Fargo, ND, her beautiful granddaughters, Sertyange DeGroat and Evelynn Shively, both of Fargo, ND, that she loved so much. She is also survived by her sisters, Mona (Doug) Manning, Necedah, WI, and Debbie Johnson; nephew, Jared Johnson whom she had a special bond with; brothers, Rodney (Gayle) Olson, and Randy (Lisa) Olson; stepsister, Renae (Joe) Kraft, and many brother and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Gina married into a large family and loved her in-laws so very much.
She was preceded in death by the love of her life, Lyle DeGroat Jr.; parents, Harold and Edna; stepsister, Becky Olson; brother-in-law, Darrell Johnson; and many other extended family. What a great reunion it will be.
Mom, you may be gone from our sight but will remain forever in our hearts. We love you and thank you for being a great mom and thanks for giving us a wonderful life. Love, Tricia and Tanya.
God bless the memory of Gina DeGroat.
