It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Regina M. Spurgin, a beloved mother, artist, and cherished friend, who left this world on December 24, 2025. Regina was born on January 15, 1963, in
Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where she lived a life full of creativity, love, and a deep connection with nature.
Regina was the daughter of Eberhard Otto Braun and Gisela Waltraut Muss, both of whom preceded her in death. She is survived by her two children, Andrew Evan-Lucas Spurgin and Alicia Morgen Spurgin, who were her pride and joy.
Mom's nurturing spirit and boundless affection for her family defined her approach to motherhood, as she celebrated every accomplishment of her children with heartfelt cards and messages, ensuring they always felt cherished and revered.
A graduate of Linn-Mar High School, Regina pursued her passion for knowledge and earned dual bachelor's degrees-one in criminal justice and another focusing on Sociology. Her education was a testament to her dedication and determination, qualities that she instilled in her children.
Regina was a lifelong resident of the Marion and Cedar Rapids area, where she cultivated her love for art. She found joy in creating beautiful stained glass and jewelry, often prioritizing the sharing of her art over financial gain. Her artistic expressions were not limited to these mediums; Mom's creativity flourished through cooking and crafting, as she sought to nourish the mind, body, and soul of those around her.
Her love for animals was profound, with her home often filled with the gentle company of birds, rabbits, squirrels, and deer. Regina formed special bonds with each creature, particularly with her beloved dog, Lexi. Her heart was always open to the animals that came to visit, and she took pleasure in leaving special treats for them.
In her youth, she loved riding horses. Being out on the trails trotting along allowed her to feel a deep oneness with nature, a connection that she cherished throughout her life. Later, her adventurous spirit led her to embrace two-wheeled journeys, especially her cherished trips to
Sturgis, SD, where the wind in her hair reminded her of her youthful escapades. Music, especially the blues, was the heartbeat of Regina's life. As a devoted member of the Blues Society, she was a familiar and vibrant presence at festivals and live events across the region. Regina didn't just listen to the music; she lived it. Over the decades, she forged lasting memories and shared stories with countless artists, building a treasured collection
of photographs alongside the musicians she so deeply admired. For Regina, every concert was a celebration of soul, community, and the rhythms she loved.
Regina was known for her caring and loving nature. She had a unique way of making others feel seen and celebrated, always ensuring that holidays, birthdays, and life milestones were marked with love and recognition. Her legacy of love, creativity, and kindness will live on in the hearts of her family and all who were fortunate enough to know her.
A celebration of Regina's life will take place at a later date, and details will be shared with family and friends. In the meantime, her family encourages everyone to remember her spirit by spreading kindness and creativity in their own lives, just as she did.
Rest peacefully, Mom, knowing you were deeply loved and will be profoundly missed.
