Reginald Burch Campbell, aged 82, passed away on November 16, 2022, after an extended illness.
Reggie was the fourth of six children born to Burch and Dicey Campbell on September 17, 1940, in Hartford, Alabama. He came from a hardworking family and grew up in Slocomb, Alabama, graduating from Slocomb High School in May 1958. Shortly before graduation, he met Mary Ellen Peters at a basketball game and fell in love. They married and had four children, Laura, Donna, Lesa, and Reggie. The family settled in Crestview, Florida, where he worked as a distributor for Murray Biscuit Company for many years, received multiple awards for his work ethic and salesmanship, and later became lovingly referred to as "the cookie man." Reggie was a deacon at Live Oak Baptist Church and was well-known in the community for his work ethic, but his life legacy is his enduring love for his family. Ellen died of leukemia at age 34, leaving him with four children. After her death, he demonstrated that love by stating, "My children are my reason for living." Reggie eventually married Shirley Gray of Milton, Florida, once again proving his integrity and love for his family by loving, nurturing, and cherishing his new daughter, Donna Sue. Shirley soon gave birth to a son, Chip Michael, and our father's love for family was evidenced again after her death. After successfully raising his six children, Reggie retired in Milton, Florida, where he enjoyed spending time with his family, listening to live music, taking weekend getaways to Biloxi, being a master checker player, and a die-hard fan of the Auburn tigers.
In addition to the deaths of his beloved wives, he was also preceded in death by his son, Chip Campbell of Milton, Florida; parents, Burch and Dicey Campbell of Slocomb, Alabama; siblings, Grady Campbell of Auburn, Alabama, David Campbell of Hartford, Alabama, Clara, and Foy Smith of Meridian, Mississippi.
He is survived by Laura Buck of D'Iberville, Mississippi; Donna Lowery of Milton, Florida; Lesa (Lutchman) Kissoon of Spring Hill, Florida; Donna Gray Vaughan of Ruskin, Florida; Reggie (Keith Ann) Campbell of Milton, Florida. He is also survived by siblings Don Campbell (Mary Jim) of Pell City, Alabama; Greg (Rhonda) Campbell of Jackson Gap, Alabama, and Glenda Eseltine of Columbus, Georgia; thirteen grandchildren, nineteen great- grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be on Friday, November 25, 2022, from 6-8 pm at Lewis Funeral Home Milton Chapel, 6405 Highway 90 West Milton, Florida 32570. Graveside services will be held at Live Oak Baptist Church Cemetery in Crestview, Florida, on Saturday, November 26. 2022 at 10 am.
The family extends a special thank you to Dr. Messe, all Sandy Ridge Health and Rehabilitation staff, and Emerald Coast Hospice for all their love and care during his lengthy illness.
