Reginald Adonis Crenshaw passed away on July 25, 2024, at home in Ocala, FL. Reggie was born on October 8, 1943, at Old Lincoln Hospital in Bronx, NY, to Adelaide Francis Crenshaw (nee Stroud) and George Robert Crenshaw Jr. He graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School before enlisting in the United States Air Force in 1961. In 1970, Reggie began his career in the New York Fire Department(NYFD), rising to the rank of Captain. He maintained lifetime membership in the Vulcan Society and International Association of Black Professional Fire Fighters. Reggie returned to the Air Force Reserves as a Loadmaster for the C-141 Starlifter aircraft in 1978, serving in Operation Desert Storm and many other missions around the globe. He retired from NYFD in 1991.
Reggie established a lifelong commitment to serving youth and serving his Savior Jesus Christ. After moving to Ocala, FL, he began volunteer youth fellowship with the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice, Marion County. He also committed his time to the food pantry, Bible Study, and Men's Fellowship group at Marion Oaks Assembly of God. Some of his favorite activities included riding his motorcycle, studying the Bible, and donating to youth-related philanthropic causes.
He is survived by his wife Josephine, son Brett A. Crenshaw of Jersey City, NJ, daughter Crystal B Springer of Brooklyn, NY, granddaughter, Egypt A. Quander Crenshaw of Baltimore, MD, George Robert Crenshaw III of Holtsville, NY, Patricia Mae Crenshaw Johnson of Central Islip, NY and a host of nieces and nephews. He is preceded by his late mother, father, and siblings, Barbara Oliphant of Central Islip and Leonard Crenshaw of Queens, NY, and many beloved others.
Funeral services will be held at Marion Oaks Assembly of God on Monday, August 5, 2024, at 10:00am with Pastor Tim McIntyre officiating. Burial will follow at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, FL. Roberts of Ocala Funerals and Cremations will be handling the funeral arrangements.
