Reinaldo "Popolo" Martes, 58, of Waterbury, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, March 10, 2026.

Popolo was born on April 26, 1967, in Bronx, NY, a son of Catherine Rivera of Waterbury, CT. He worked at Bloomingdales By Mail for 4 years and after that, worked as a self-employed construction worker and handyman.

Besides his mother, Popolo leaves his son, Renaldo Martel, daughters, Stephanie Martes and Maria Martes, stepfather, Heriberto Santiago and grandchildren, Valentina Victoria Martel, Jasiah Zae Salazar, Angeli Lorena Martel, Rolanyel Martel, Beltran Deyaneiraliz Grajales Martel, Alanis Ruby Martel Cardona and Mikaela Rodriguez Martel. He is also survived by many siblings, including, Maria Ramirez, Jason Rivera, Joseph Rivera and Jarvis Rivera and many nieces and nephews in the United States and Puerto Rico.

Arrangements: Calling hours for Popolo will be held on Thursday, March 19, 2025, from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Chase Parkway Memorial/Albini Family Funeral Home, 430 Chase Parkway, Waterbury, CT. At the conclusion of the wake, a prayer service will be held at 6:45 p.m. at the funeral home. On Friday, March 20, 2026, his burial will take place in St. Raymond Cemetery in Bronx, NY at 12:45 p.m.
