George Reldon Key was born February 13, 1930, in Taylor County, Iowa the youngest of five children born to Frank Key and Lillian (Hyatt) Key. He attended country schools and then the Lenox High School, so he could compete in athletics, after Melvie returned from the war. After high school he joined the National Guard and on November 20, 1948 he was united in marriage to Doris (Dorie) Roe. To this loving union five children were born, Alan, Mike, Deb, Jacquie and Sandra. Dennis Elliott, who worked with Reldon, soon became part of the family.
The couple made their home in Lenox, and while Reldon worked for the railroad they lived in a box car in western Nebraska. Shortly before Deb's birth they made plans to return to Lenox, even though he continued to work for the railroad. In 1960, he began working for Lencor which became Tote Manufacturing, now known as PPI. He was a long-time Kansas City Chief's supporter, often taking his children's whole football team to a game! Reldon retired on February 1, 1995. Together they enjoyed sharing their lives, and attending all of their children's and grandchildren's sporting activities.
Left to cherish Reldon's memory are his five children, Alan Key and Cathy of Charlotte, North Carolina; Mike Key and Mindy French of Guthrie, Oklahoma; Deb Dalton and husband Dick of Lenox, Iowa; Jacquie Ellis of Maryville, Missouri; and Sandra Marshall and husband David of Lenox, Iowa; thirteen grandchildren, Brian, Miles, Jasen, Tasha, Megan, Jordan, Paul, Amy, Evan, Scott, Nick, Tyson and Britty; along with many other great and great-great-grandchildren, relatives and friends.
Preceding Reldon in death are his parents, Frank and Lillian Key; his loving wife, Dorie Key in June of 2020; all of his siblings; his in-law's family; Gary Ellis in February of 2020; and a grandson, Clint Marshall in November of 2017.
The memory of a well-spent life never dies.
We cannot keep you forever, but the memories,
we shared will remain in our hearts forever.
