Rene Colunga Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Mission Park Funeral Chapels South, Cemeteries & Crematories on Mar. 12, 2024.
Rene Edgar Colunga, age 75, left this earth to be with his Heavenly Father on Sunday, March 10, 2024, after a lengthy battle with cancer. He will join his mother and father, Zulema and Frank Colunga who preceded him in death. He is survived by his twin brothers Eliazar and George (Sylvia), and younger brother Hector (Mary). He leaves many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts uncles and friends that will miss his laughter and hearing about his adventures.
Rene owned his own sanitary disposal business, Palm Park Disposal Services, for over 30 years and provided service on the southeast side of town always helping neighbors along his route. Rene loved going on fishing trips and camping anywhere along the Padre Island coast in his motor home. As an auto enthusiast, he could be found working on several vehicles at a time. His favorite TV shows were always about politics. He enjoyed listening to country music especially the older classics like Ray Price, George Jones, Johnny Cash, Kitty Wells, and Loretta Lynn. Of course, Rene absolutely loved going country- western dancing and continued dancing into his 70's. Rene's biggest enjoyment after he "retired" his business, was discovering the Las Vegas casinos and playing craps at least once a month. He often would send pictures of the chips he had won and with a huge smile on his face.
Special thanks and gratitude to his extraordinary Tia Aurora who provided Rene with many years of heartfelt support and love before and especially during his time of cancer.
Many thanks to those at Harbor Valley Rehabilitation that cared for and comforted Rene during his last days. Visitation will be held on Friday, March 22, 2024 from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. with a rosary at 6:00 p.m. Visitation will being from 11:00am to 12:00pm on Saturday, March 23, 2024 and Entombment will be at 12:15pm at Mission Burial Park South.
