Renny Cox, 82, of Lexington, KY, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Saturday, September 27, 2025.
Born on November 22, 1942, in Hazard, KY, Renny was the son of AJ and Pauline Robinson Cox. He was a long-time resident of Harrodsburg, KY, with his wife, Nancy Driskell Cox, who preceded him in death.
Renny loved life, family, flying, and golf. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and enlisted upon graduation at age 17. At 26, while working in Reno, Nevada, he became a pilot. He enjoyed flying his plane to many destinations and on vacations with his wife, Nancy. They hosted a Fourth of July celebration for many years that became a favorite family tradition. He was an avid golfer and played almost every day after retirement.
Renny is survived by a son, Kevin (Melissa) Vermillion of Hazard, KY; a stepson, Kevin (Ella) Hale, and a stepdaughter, Carla (Jeff) Montgomery, both of Harrodsburg, KY.
He is survived by his grandchildren, Rebekah (Zack Stephens) Vermillion, Alex Vermillion, Dustin Hale, Greg (Stephanie) Hale, Daniel (Tara) Barrett, Jill (David) Wease, and Heath Montgomery; as well as great-grandchildren: Katie Hale, McKinlee Lewis, Jack Barrett, and Grayson Wease; and many nieces and nephews.
Renny is also survived by two sisters, Jeanne Wombles of Lexington, KY and Rhonda Gillis of McLean, VA. He was preceded in death by twin sisters, Cora and Mary Cox, and a brother, Johnny Cox.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, October 5th at 4:00 p.m. at Midway Christian Church, 123 East Bruen Street, Midway, KY, with a brief visitation beginning at 3:30 p.m.
