Renta Hutabarat Obituary
She was born in Jakarta, Indonesia on August 1, 1956, and was raised in Singapore. She was the daughter of the late PH Hutabarat and Martama Hutabarat Boru Hutagalung.
After graduating from Seventh Day Adventist in Singapore, She went to study at Montana State University- Bozeman for her Bachelor Degree in Chemistry, and then received her Master's Degree in Pharmacy at University of Montana in 1985. She received her PhD in Pharmacology and Toxicology from the University of Utah in 1990. She finished her Post-Doctorate studies in 1993 at University of Washington.
After her Post-Doc, she started her career at Burroughs Wellcome in RTP, NC. Following that, she moved to Genetic Institute in Andover, MA. In 1998, she joined Regeneron Pharmaceuticals in Tarrytown, NY. She has also had careers with Purdue Pharma, Archemix Corp, Alnylam Therapeutics, Vitrisa Therapeutics, Gemini Therapeutics. Renta is currently part of the NeuBase Therapeutics team in Pittsburgh, PA.
Renta leaves her children; Indah E. Hutabarat and Spouse Trong Nguyen of Malden, Immanuel Utomo and Spouse Jennifer Nelson of Brookline. She is also survived by her sister Heidi Hutabarat of Dracut, Sister Tiurlan Simatupang of Jakarta, brother Toman Hutabarat of Jakarta, brother Arnold Hutabarat of Jakarta, and brother Elsworth (Ucok) Hutabarat of Pacitan. She also leaves her beloved 4 legged grandson, Maximilian Maximus Hutabarat.
A Celebration of Life in memory of Renta Hutabarat will be held on Saturday, June 25th, 2022 from 11 AM to 3 PM at Danversport Waterfront, 161 Elliott Street, Danvers, MA, 01923. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Renta's memory to Eleventh Hour Animal Rescue based in Morris County, NJ (www.ehrdogs.org/).

I just learned of Renta's passing and am shocked. She was greater than life, an outstanding scientist and a phenomenal cook. My thoughts are with her children, her sister Heidi and her family. A great loss.

Renta was a great colleague, a kind person with a big heart and always ready for a good joke. She made people around her feel appreciated. I knew Renta from our years working at Alnylam. I am very saddened to learn she passed away. My deepest condolences to her family and close ones. Rest in Piece my friend. We still have the pink piggie toy you gave my son 12 years ago that he loved so much and we still comment on how you will talk to him when he was at the office and waiting for me to finish work so we can go home. Thanks for babysitting :-) and for introducing me to Gingerbread Construction co strawberry shortbread muffins. The heaven has gained an angel. RIP.

I feel so sad knowing that Renta left us. She was wonderful to know during her time at Burroughs Wellcome. Always with a quick smile and laugh. I so enjoyed meals at her home and going out with the group to outdoor concerts. I had the most at work when she was there. She was unforgettable.

My sympathy goes out to Renta´s family. I knew Renta while she was a post doc at the University of Washington. Renta had the ability to make everyone smile and make any outing more fun than possible. She was loved by everyone that knew her. Her kindness, personality and generous spirit is something I am thankful to have known. Renta will be missed, she filled the room with laughter and love of life.
