Reta Kay Van Soest was born on January 20th, 1947 in Winimac, Indiana. Reta was the 6th of seven siblings born to Thelma and Maurice Van Soest. In 1949, Reta and her family moved to Denver, Colorado. They lived in Denver, Firestone, Windsor and then settled in Brighton where her father farmed. Reta wed Rocky Selanders in June of 1966. She had 3 children, Rhonda Kay (Jon Hurlburt), Ramsey Roy (Kristine), and Ryan Roy (Wendy). One of Reta's favorite roles in her life was being a grandma to her 8 grandkids: Molly, CJ (Dusti), Megan (Ryan Benoy), Courtney (Izzy Rodriguez), Cody (Alexa), Cade (Paola), Amber (Porter Warren) and Trenton (Mia). Her latest title in life was Mimi G, now having 8 precious great grandchildren: Amaya, Elier, Cat, Darius, Eloise, Brooks, Zariyah and Wesley.

Reta was raised in the church and always loved to sing. Reta was an active member of the Westminster Church of the Nazarene starting in 1971. Reta's career started at First National Bank of Brighton in 1965. She worked her way from teller to personal banker and was a notary public. After her time in the bank, she moved over to the Center for Financial Training until she retired in 2012.

In 2013, she started dating Mr. Tom Beeson, a long time family friend. They were often out and about, driving around all the places Reta remembered from her childhood, each one accompanied by a story. The love between the two of them brought so much happiness to the last 12 years of her life.

Reta's spirit will live on through the love, laughter and memories she brought to everyone she met.
